If you marry on WDW property do you have to have it set up by Disney?

My coworker is tossing around the idea of getting married at WDW.
SMALL wedding (perhaps just she and her fiancee).
If she wanted to get married on the pier with the lighthouse at the Y&BC, and bring in her own justice of the peace, would Disney "allow" that? or is she obligated to book through Disney for that --even if it she wants it THAT simple??

In order to have any sort of ceremony related to marriage on Disney property (Wedding, vow renewal), even if its just the Bride and Groom, and no one else, You DO need to go through Disney; with very few exceptions. Word is that some people try to get away with having a small celebration without going through Disney, but its not pretty when they get caught, and they usually do get caught.

The exception to getting married on Disney "property" without going through Disney's Fairy Tale wedding program is getting married at The Swan or Dolphin, as they are not operated by Disney. But if your co-worker wanted to do it at the Y&BC, they would definitely need to go through Disney.

you need to book through Disney! They will kick you off property if they find out and it's not done through DFTW.

....even if they're staying at a WDW resort??

Yup. The only way to do it without getting caught is if you do it in your room. But honestly, I don't think it's worth risking. And, just personally, that's kinda boring.

Good to know (and yes, I agree -- getting married in a hotel room would be horrible).
THANKS TO YOU BOTH FOR THE INFO!!

It is possible to get married on property without going through DFTW.

You must get married in a private resort room but I remember reading recaps of a couple who had a gorgeous wedding in a Boardwalk Villa.

My husband and I got married in a two bedroom villa at OKW. 25 family and friends, brought our own cake and refreshments. No problem.

We had the best time ever and were never afraid of being "kicked off the property"

I would not, however try to do this in a Disney Park.
