Please give me three reasons to move back to the Midwest?

I am talking IRL reasons, some perks, a few great things.. about living in Illinois.

It would help if I could come up with a couple of great differences btwn Ca and Illinois..... as my kids are West Coast kids and the thought of moving to Illinois has them jittery.

Thanks for the help.
Joan

huh...i have lived in Central Illinois for my entire life:

we actually have 4 seasons...winter with snow which is always fun, shoveling the drive way, scaping the windows...

Fall-changing of leaves..the cool air during football season..wearing sweatshirts with shorts...

Spring-watching the grass turn green and having to get the mower out! pollen count rising and getting the allergie medicine out!

Summer-heat and humidity!

i guess..i wasn't much help...if it wasn't for my family being here..we would NOT be here either!

1. There usually aren't any earthquakes.
2. The snow is great
3. You're closer to Disneyworld!

I guess it depends on where in Illinois you are headed. As you know, Chicago is a completely different place from "Down State."

Let's see there's

corn, more corn, and soybeans.
Summer humidity is great for your complexion
No matter where you go, road construction will make the drive interesting......
The State Government always makes for an interesting research paper when the teacher assigns "Politics and Corruption" as the topic

I'm really trying here! I feel your pain - my kids didn't want to move here from Texas but to DH and I it's home.

1) GREAT SHOPPING!!!!! (especially in the area that you may be moving!!!!)
2) GREAT SCRAPBOOK STORES (especially in the area that you may be moving!!!!)
3) MONTHLY CHICAGO AREA DIS MEETS - OOPS make that maybe every other month ;) (especially in the area that you may be moving!!!!)
4) GREAT SCHOOLS WITH GREAT SPORTS!!!! especially if your kids are into sports or music or extracurricular activities
5) Always changing seasons as other have pointed out - but they aren't THAT bad - fall with the wonderful colors and parks that we are near that you can enjoy the colors at; winter with the snow (we get less and less each year actually); spring with the wonderful array of blooming flowers you can enjoy and again the parks that you would be near to enjoy the wildflowers and the arboretum that you'd be near and not far from the Chicago Botanical Society (or whatever that's called); summer with the great things you are near in Illinois that you can do - not far from Lake Michigan to boat on or the Fox River that you can also boat on or picnic near
6) AN HOUR FROM CHICAGO!!!!!
7) Not far from Wisconsin that has great places to enjoy, not far from St. Louis that is always fun to visit, not far from Ohio or Indiana or Michigan that also have great things to see and do, and yes - CLOSER TO MICKEY!!!!! :D

Only 3???!!!

The biggest advantage is being so close to Chicago. The best shopping, the best restaurants, access to world class museums, shows and musicals. There's the beach, excellent school districts (for the most part), lots of friendly people, and ME!

I am not from IL but WI is pretty close. We can't afford to go to Disney more then once or twice but a nice alternative is Great America in Gurnee. (I hope that is not sacriledge (sp) on this board). The best thing I love about this area is my favorite season-Fall. I adore it. When summer has been long the cooling off is such a welcome. The trees are absolutely gorgeous and there is nothing better then going for a walk on a brisk Fall day or having a good ole leaf pile jumping contest. Good luck with convincing your kids.

Thank you so much.. keep 'em coming folks!

I have not been up to "DO" the city in a lonnnng time. However
the CUBS and DA' BEARS are a Major good thing about Illinois

also Fresh sweet corn in the summer
also.. snow at Christmas
and TRUE DEEP DISH PIZZA

Hi Joan!

I am not from Illinois, but I have been there and I have lived in California. The biggest difference for me is that the cost of living in Illinois is a lot lower than California and the people just seem a lot more friendlier. I am not saying California doesn't have friendly people, I think what I am saying is people from Illinois have a more laid back friendlier way about them.

Just my two cents......

A GOOD 2 cents at that!! :) Thanks Debbi!! I'm hoping my silly goose buddy will move here soon!!

Joan, the Cubs and Bears?? Sure, A GREAT reason but, I know you have MORE to consider than that! ;) Keep Asking and, I'm sure us folks in Illinois will help ya along the way! ;)

And, let's see.... 3 reasons....

1. Me
2. DIS Meets, year round!
3. Me, again!

We'd love and Welcome you & yours with this move!!

Well, I have to say that the weather in California has got to be better than here! We are from the South and have been freezing our butts off up here for three long years. We are always trying to get a job for DH in Florida (his home), Texas (near my home in Louisiana), or anyplace warmer than here and closer to Disney! Seriously now, if I could pick, I would choose to be closer to family. Life is so unpredictable and ever since 9/11 I have really felt sick about the fact that we can only see our families once every year or two. I don't like to fly and we really don't have the time or money to make frequent trips to see loved ones. Don't worry about the kids, we have moved several times and ours always adjust!!!

How about you and me at one of the Casino Boats drinking Long Island Ice Teas and playing blackjack?

So, do you want me to call in the movers?

DH and I moved to CA for almost a year right after we got married. We moved back for 2 main reasons, cost of living and proximity to family.

1. Cost of living
2. Closer to Disney World! You can drive it in a day!
3. 4 Seasons. Chicago has colder winters, but downstate the winters are much milder! It's a beautiful 74 here right now, but I just got off the phone with my friend in Chicago and she said it was in the low 50's there.

We're down by St. Louis, but have lived most of our lives in Central Illinois.
