Is it still crucial to arrive at park opening to stay ahead of the crowds? Or can we arrive at our leisure?

Arrive at your leisure if you have the FOTL passes from the hotels. If you bought it...I would arrive early to use the regular lines and when it gets crowded use the FOTL pass then. When you purchse the FOTL pass...it is only valid 1 time per ride.

The one reason I love staying on site is the fact that I do not feel I need to rush. We have breakfast and get over after that and then it seems that you can really walk around and enjoy the day because you know you wont be waiting long for rides. The kids love this to because they never have to hear "the lines to long were not going on that ride".
Once me and my son did every ride in OIA in 4 hours, it was a blast.

We just returned and never waited longer than a minute or two with FOTL.

This is NOT your Disney vacation. You will mosey, you will meander, you will wander..... you will never rush.

If you have Express and go during a busy season (Spring Break/Easter, Summer, 12/16-12/31) it's not uncommon to have to wait. Express waits when it's crazy busy are less than the regular line. Some rides, especially Spider-Man, Ripsaw Falls, ROTM, and Hulk may have Express lines in excess of 30 mins. The regular lines will usually be 90-120 in this case...

We were just there with hotel Express Passes. We encountered 10 to 15 minute waits at Hulk and Mummy, and a solid 25 to 30 minute line at Jurassic Park. Spiderman was 15 minutes on Thursday at noon. Otherwise the Express Lines had minimal waits.

We were at Universal from 3/28 - 4/2 and stayed onsite. I didn't pay much attention to our wait times but I would guess that we didn't wait more than 10 - 15 minutes for anything...and most rides were 5 minutes or less. I would say we waited maybe 15 minutes on Ripsaw Falls...it was rather warm out that day. We didn't have a wait for Jurassic Park on the same day though.

You do not have to rush! This is the one thing my family loved about NOT going to Disney! We woke up without alarms, had breakfast (some mornings we drove offsite for breakfast), one morning we went to the pool instead and got to the park in the afternoon. The FOTL pass is the best reason ever to pay the insane prices of Spring Break and stay onsite!

you use your room key right? Do they check ID or anything?
What I am asking is... if my DH and I plus our two kids stay onsite, but my parents join us, so there are 6 of us but 4 room keys, can we mix up and any of the six of us can use them on a ride (up to 4 at a time, of course)?
Did that even make sense?
Guess the question is - are the room keys transferable and are valid to whoever is in possession of it?

They don't check id. I think they mostly glance at the dates on the card to make sure it's still valid. Although I would be careful about an adult using a child card or vice versa because I am not sure if they check that but it is stated right on the key if you are an A (adult) or C (child) and on the child's card it also their age. Honestly we had many employees barely glance at the cards...we did have a few ask us for our hotel name which we thought was weird since it's right on the card but it is sometimes hard to see in the darker lines.

I tend to agree with this. I think the early entry to WWOHP makes it worthwhile to get an early start since you only get 1 FOTL for the Forbidden Journey. You can hop in the regular line before the 'large' crowds get in.

I've had adults hand me child keycards all the time. It's not that big of a deal, as long as the dates are valid.
