If you have AP and non-expiring tickets in your profile, read this!

I just got off the phone with Disney ticketing. They suggest that anybody with an Annual Pass and a non-expiring ticket (older/legacy) in their profile call them to have the non-expiring ticket moved to a "dummy"/temporary profile. The ticketing cast member will need to get escalation to achieve this, but the process only took a few minutes for me.

There is currently no guarantee that once the "good to go" dates are released and APs are not required to make park passes that Disney IT will pull the correct ticket when you enter the park. This is why it is being suggested to split the NE ticket to the other profile.

Anytime there are 2 undated tickets that may be pulled it has been recommended that you have Ticketing or Guest Relations "prioritize" which ticket you wish to use and then check after entering the gate. If the non-expiring ticket is fully unused yes it can be shifted to a "dummy" profile to help this issue -- and you can do that yourself. If it's been partially-used, it cannot be moved.

I'm glad your situation was resolved. Thanks for the reminder!

I have a non-expiring ticket in MDE and most times when we visit, we get new dated tickets. The first stop every trip is at GS to make sure the dated tickets will be the ones used. This might not be required, but it gives me a piece of mind.
It's way easier to make sure the issue doesn't happen then get it resolved after the fact.

Is it normal for me to have an irrational fear of the non-prioritized ticket used by mistake?

It is not irrational as you have hard earned money linked to that ticket. I would recommend following @lanejudy’s advice above to provide some peace of mind.
