If you found out you were descended from Robin Hood and Maid Marian, how would you react?

Sorry no updates. We will probably check if we ever return back to my MIL’s village near Newcastle. Not sure how many “Hoods” there are. Hoping to go back in the next few years.
One thing that might help is looking at England maps of the 12th century to see if village/towns changed boundaries to their modern counterparts. Also you can see what areas of the UK participated in the third crusade.

I would be SHOCKED because neither of them really existed... Which means I don't exist....

Goodbye World...
Well actually, most historians think that there may have been a real person (or people) who inspired the legends. “Hood” seems to be a specific surname that was given to outlaws/accused criminals. The name I believe started to be commonly used during the medieval ages in England for anyone defined as a “wolf’s head”. If you were a wolf’s head, you were deemed to have no rights and therefore anyone could kill you without consequence. Sherwood Forest does exist, along with Loxley. It is more believed that there have been multiple Robin Hoods and that the legend evolved with each new person fitting the role. Think of it this way. Jack Sparrow’s real name is John Teague, but his alias is what we know him as.

When the BBC did the tv series, Robin Hood died in the forest and went to heaven with Lady Marian. His merry men continue his work against Prince John and repeatedly say “We are Robin Hood”. The implication being that if Robin Hood existed, that is how the legend continued for hundreds of years. People would claim doing good works in the name of the local hero. That is a pretty reasonable claim. Also Sherwood Forest is supposedly haunted by him, his merry men, and possibly Marian. Others claim there are several graves for him as well. None have been proven to truly be his however.

I'm aware it's believed that he may be an imagined version of a real person/persons. But a real man named Robin Hood never existed... So I stand by my statement. 😅

I’m curious if any interesting new facts have been discovered? If not, that’s fine. I hope all is well with you and your family. :-)

It wouldn't affect me at all, because.....
unlike this Robin Hood, I cannot speak with an English accent.
