If you don't have a trifle bowl, what do you use?

I'm thinking of making a trifle for tomorrow night to bring to my sister in law's house for New Years Eve. I have some brownie mix, cool whip & Reese cups to use up, so I thought I would throw together a trifle.

I know I don't really NEED to use a trifle bowl but I'm trying to think of what I have that I can use. I'm assuming any bowl will do.

What do you use?

I use a trifle bowl but I would think any glass bowl would work. As long as it's deep enough. You don't want it to look like slop.

Do you have apunch bowl? Or a cake display? ( I have that that flips unside down so you can fill it up for punch or trifle ect) Other than that a big glass bowl would work just fine.

The point of the trifle bowl is to see the layers of the trifle. So you could really use anything as long as you don't care about seeing the layers. People sometimes use a beach pail (new and clean of course, lol:rotfl2:).
So, whatever you have lying around would be fine. Although, there are some great sales going on, you may be able to find one cheap!

First preference is something glass, so that you can see the layers, and within that, something with as straight of sides as possible to keep the layers relatively uniform. But at the end of the day, as long as it tastes good, I doubt anybody will care much how it's served!

I understand all the words in that sentence, but not in that order, heh.

I'd look for the closest thing even if not a traditional bowl - do you have one of those big squat candle holder deals for the giant pillar candles, or a big square squat vase? A shorter apothecary jar?

If not then the most even big glass bowl like the poster above said, punch bowl, that you've got.

Ooooo....or how about doing individual ones? Or several smaller in different sizes???? Hmmmm....

Does anyone else think of Friends when someone says trifle??? :happytv:

Instead of one big bowl, how about wine glasses? Then each person can have their own, and the presentation will stay intact.

I was in the same boat as OP till yesterday. I was making a chocolate mousse cake for family party tonite, and the store was out of ladyfingers..I had to buy angel food cake instead. But that wouldn't work with the springform pan, and I didn't have anything else to use. I took a trip to Walmart..and for $6.97 I now have a nice glass Anchor Hocking trifle bowl, lol!

I JUST saw them on sale at Wal-Mart for $10 or $15. I remember because I thought it was a strange thing to have a whole end cap of on sale.

LOL...Apparently, people are looking for them!

You bolded a part in my original post about (brownies, cool whip & Reese cups). I guess I don't understand what you don't understand about that part of my post. :lmao: I'm confused. LOL

I'm not the person who replied, but I'm also confused - isn't a trifle ladyfingers, berries and cream? I don't eat fruit, cream, or most sugar, so I stay away from them, but that's the only kind of trifle I've ever seen. Never heard of it being made with all those processed things thrown together. :confused3

Google it! Trifles are made with all kinds of things. My favorite is called angel lush. It uses angel food cake, pineapple, cool whip and pudding. Lovey!

I'm not an expert on trifles but I'm pretty sure you can make it with just about anything you want.

I've seen all sorts of flavors used. The one that I saw online uses brownies (just cut up in small pieces) layered with pudding, cool whip & candies (you could use Reese cups, toffee pieces, cookies pieces, etc)

I have a brownie mix in my cupboard along with a bag of Reese cups & some cool whip that I'd like to use up so I figured this would be a great way to use them.

Trifle is made with sponge fingers, fruit, maybe jelly (jello to you guys), custard, then finally cream with some roasted almond flakes on top........or at least it is where I come from!!!!

If you google Reese Cups and trifle together, you get 155,000 hits. Who knew?

I have a trifle bowl, but I've never actually used it for trifle. It's great for a fruit salad, though.

Am I the only one dying to eat brownies with deeded now........

with anything layered.. so I knew exactly what you meant. A layer of pudding would be good in yours too. :)

This is the third one I got when I searched on pinterest: http://mymostdeliciousdishes.blogspot.com/2010/02/brownie-trifle.html it's very similar to what you are planning.

I got mine for $1 and use it all the time. Do you have time to run to a goodwill? I would think maybe you could find one there, or definitely a bunch of matching glasses cheap that would work for individual servings. I bet the Dollar Tree would have things that would work also.

We take them to parties all the time and they are always a hit.

You could also just make the brownies in a 9x13 pan, frost with the cool whip and cover with crushed candy.

Have fun!

Yep, this is exactly what I planned on making (instead subbing the toffee pieces for Reese cups). The only thing I don't have is the pudding. Will pick that up when I go to the store.
