If you don't eat dinner in the Parks, where do you eat?

We are staying at Embassy Suites South and are looking for places to have dinner besides the Parks and Downtown Disney. We won't have a car so it would have to be walkable from Disneyland or close to Embassy Suites South. We would prefer close to Embassy Suites so that we could go back and wash up and have their free "cocktail hour" and then eat dinner. I have asked on another thread for ideas but have not received a good response. Please help!

Looking at google earth there are quite a few places south of the Embassy Suites. At the intersection of Chapman and Harbor it shows an Outback Steakhouse, Red Robin, Joe's Crab Shack, Coco's Bakery, and a few other local restaurants. In addition to those there are probably some in the surrounding hotels. There are also fast food shops peppered around. Up north to the next block is a Denny's and a Baker's Square.

BTW, that's pretty far south of the park - how are you getting to DL without a car?

Thanks for the information.

We intend to use the bus that runs outside the hotel. There are 12 of us - 7 adults, 1 teen and 4 children - 9, 8, 6 and 1.5. According to what I have read on these boards it is the only stop on the bus that runs from the Embassy Suites South to the Parks. If not having a car does not work out, we feel we can always rent a few. This is most of our groups first trip to DL as we are Disney Vacation Club owners and spend most of our time in FL at the Wilderness Lodge Villas. We always have a car in FL so this is a new experience for us. We are on the Magic from June 8th through the 15th and then plan on staying through the 19th at the Embassy Suites.

Joe's Crab Shack is right in front. There are other restaurants within walking distance, and a Target across the street from the Embassy Suites South. I think you'll find plenty of places you can walk to.

Across the street from Disneyland & within walking distance are Denny's, International House of Pancakes, Mimi's Cafe (I recommend), McDonalds, Tony's Ribs, and some other places. Ramada Maingate has a little courtyard w/Chinese food & pizza.

Heya,

On my last trip our best meal was at Mimi's across the street from the parks. :)

Food in the park wasn't bad per se, but we got excellent, prompt service. Everything was prepared to order, and the food was overall just plain good (mmmm, french dip sandwich). We had dined at Rainforest and ESPN in DTD, but both experiences were lacking in one way or another.

Anyway, if you want some good comfort food close to the park without paying an arm and a leg, check the Mimi's.

We tend to eat either in the Disney hotels or in DTD. We especially like Storyteller's at GC and Hook's Point at DH or Ralph Brennan's at DTD.

We have a Mimi's in the next suburb so have eaten there and do enjoy it. Thanks for all your help. With getting off the cruise boat, we are not looking for gourmet food but really do enjoy places like Mimi's and Bucca.

As a previous poster said, there is Red Robin and the crab shack place. I ate at RR and it was quite crowded at dinner time. My in laws ate at the crab place and said it was really good. There is also a Beppo de something... a chain Italian place I have never ate at, but I have read about it on this site. I think it is right across the street from the crab shack/Red Robbin.

My cousin and I ate at the Denny's ( I think it's on Katella)

We stayed at Embassy in April of '05...we ate a few times at Red Robin's and the Crab Shack..they are basically in the parking lot of the hotel!

Both are very good!

Another vote for Mimi's. It is excellent food at a great price with a menu varied enough to suit a wide variety of tastes. We eat there several times whenever we go. This trip we're hoping to try Bucca di Beppo as well. We also love to order Round Table pizza and have it delivered to the room. It's fabulous!

We LOVE Red Robin. We eat there often and love their all you can eat fries! :cool1: Their prices are about 9.00 for a burger and fries and then your drink.

Joes Crab Shack is a bit more expensive but great crab. I took my son there for a treat last summer when we did a mom and son trip.

Outback is great too.

Across from Disneyland in addition to the places mentioned is Millie's. It is just North of Mimi's. They have a HUGE assortment of all american food. Great pot roast, burgers and salads too.

Have fun.

I'm not familiar with how google earth works. How do you get to see the restaurants in the area?
