If you coupon to stockpile (NOT EXTREME)

Family of 5 we buy based on whats inside. The least we buy is 2 and thats normally on the weeks where you might only get one SS. The weeks where there are lots of inserts we buy more. But on average we buy 5-7 a week. A couple weeks ago when Walgreens had BOGO Free on right guard Mens Body Wash we bought 15 papers since there was a BOGO Free manufactuer. We ended up getting about 30 mens body washs for free and now my husband is set for the next couple years. But 15 is no where near our norm. that week we had some sore backs from so much clipping.

No. It is $52 per year. I have already purchased two copies so I would need to purchase 4 more. I would need to pay for 4 more papers at a rate of $52 upfront each for the year.

We have an "Early Edition" of the Sunday paper that is available on Saturday late-afternoons. It is only $1, as opposed to $2 on Sunday. Supposedly it has the same coupons that come on Sunday.

Ok, so that would mean 6 for us as we have 5 in our family.

Hmmmm.....that means I need to come up with $208 more. I could swing it, but would have to cut somewhere else.....maybe groceries for April!

When I lived in PA I would get 5 papers a week. The regular newstand price was $2 but I would get them at the dollar store for $1. My main grocery store had a limit of 4 like coupons per transaction so I didn't want anymore than that. I would usually give the 5th coupon to my Mom or someone in the store. Plus, I had plenty of stores around me so I could use my coupons more effectively.

Now that I'm in KY, I am more rural and only have a few stores to shop at. So I only get 1 Sunday paper here(Lexington). But, I also get a local paper that is delivered on Wed and Sat. That paper also has manu coupon inserts. The subscription costs $28 a year. I would definitely look into that.

Also, when I lived in PA, there were a lot of little community newsletters/newspapers that were delivered to each home. They were like shopping news or penny saver type newspapers. Some of those had coupon inserts. And all the grocery stores in my area would have them available for you to take for free.

And another tip, check your local library. My library gets 10-15 newspapers a day. The library would clip the coupons from the paper and put them out in a basket for anybody to take. I bring in the coupons I don't want/use and swap for the ones I will use.

Thanks. Our library may do something like that but the closest one is 10 miles each way, so $4 in gas to get there and back.

I am surprised at all of you saying you get them for $1 at your dollar store. We have even had a couple of people in our frugal local group go there and ask and they have looked at them like they had two heads as they don't carry them.

If the dollar store here had them for $1 you can bet I would just be getting them there rather than shelling out the $$ up front.

What Dollar stores do you have? I would get mine at Dollar Tree. I never had any luck finding the paper at Dollar General or Family Dollar.

ETA: Check with the librarian at your kid's school libraries. They usually get a couple of daily papers. Maybe they'll give you the coupons if you ask.

Our Dollar Stores used to carry them each Sunday but they all seemed to stop about a year ago. When I asked, they said the newspaper stopped them from selling them there for $1.

Check your local Walmart. Ours has a bundle of 2 Sunday papers for $3. I usually head there if the Dollar Store is sold out. I've also seen them bundled like that in grocery stores when we lived in MD (Giant had them on Saturdays like that).

THIS! I can usually buy 10-20 of a single coupon for less than the cost of 1 paper unless it's a "hot"coupon.

Our local stores will double (or up a coupon to a dollar) on the first three alike coupons. So I get three Sunday papers. I am one of a dying breed that still reads the whole paper so I figure I am really only getting two papers I don't use most of. Keeps the kids from fighting over the Sunday comics too. Our local paper does a daily-plus-multiple-Sunday deal that I use.

I buy only one Sunday paper. I get a few coupons on Wednesday in the mail, mostly pizza, but sometimes a few good others. My Mom gives me the coupons she doesn't use from her paper and Wednesday mailer. I've not yet felt the need to purchase more than one paper. I've only been seriously couponing for about 3 months, since I lost my job, but I've managed to accumulate 15 bottles of laundry soap (50 cents each), about 20 tubes of toothpaste (free), about 10 dish soaps (25 cents each), just to name a few. I did have to learn not to be so brand loyal though. It wasn't easy but we're adjusting fine. . I've cut our grocery bill in half. We still buy most of the same things, but the brands vary depending on the coupon I have.

I'll stockpile things like body wash, shampoos/conditioners, dish detergent, cleaning items, toothpaste, paper towels, toilet paper, canned goods, rice, pasta, tuna, coffee, creamer, hot cocoa. My 'stockpile' is really more like a 3 to 6 month supply (depending on the item).

As for where I get coupons.... I get the Sunday paper. I usually buy one but if I know there are going to be great coupons, I'll buy 2 or even 3. I also get them from the coupon train and I just recently bought some on ebay (so simple --- already clipped and cheaper than buying papers)

i started getting the free inserts delivered on thursdays with local papers so i actually stopped buying the sunday paper. i also print alot of coupons online!
