If you could only stay at your home resort....

I would like to resort hop, DH is not interested in that at all. He loves AKV....which is fine with me. We are very happy at our home resort.

Since we were in that age group by the time we purchased 13 years ago, I'm going to say OKW! We LOVE the extra space, the huge balcony, the great views, and the laid back atmosphere of the resort.

I would say either BCV or BWV. Both offer the kind of sit back and chill vacaton you are describing.

Sounds like you may like these best.

Personally we chose BLT and BWV as our homes. Location, location, location!

If you had said you'd stay mostly in 1 or 2 bedroom units, I would have said OKW hands down.
But since you plan to stay mostly in studios, I would say BCV or BLT.

I think we're going to look for VWL-it sounds like it's the one where the 11-month window will work best to our advantage since I really want to do Christmas season there at least once. I'm ready to make the purchase now so I wanted to make a decision without going down to visit the resorts I haven't seen yet.

I know we'll end up resort hopping--if it turns out we want Food&Wine time near Epcot...we'll look at an addon or trading points with a friend!.

This statement intrigues me as we just purchased BLT. I did wonder when we toured if those bottom floors counted as MK views, because you really do see nothing but cars, monorail pillars and bushes around the patios from them. So, Disney counts those as MK views rather than as standards? How do you ensure an acceptable view when booking? Or... how do you get a credit of your points if assigned to a rotten view when paying for an actual MK view?

We spend very little time in our actual room when we go to Disney, and with all the beautiful public areas for viewing fireworks, I imagine even with a standard view booking, we would not be frustrated about finding a lovely viewing spot each night.

We are currently looking at purchasing BWV as well, as we now go annually for Food & Wine (we're in those years after kids graduate from college but before grandchildren come along, so it's "us" time!). Between these two resorts, I think only being able to stay in our home resort(s) would be fine. However, if limited to just our home resort, we would lose a big chunk of the value we considered when first purchasing... i.e., the ability to use our timeshare at places other than Disney in the future.

Unfortunately, there is no way to guarantee that you will be getting a room on one of the higher floors that has better MK views than the lower floors. I have read that MK view rooms start as low as floor 3.

If you book and get one of these rooms, there really isn't much you can do to be reimbursed for points since you are being given an MK view room. While you can certainly complain and ask at check in (if assigned one of these rooms) to have a different room, but if nothing else is available, you will be stuck as someone is going to get these rooms.

This is why I will never pay the extra points for MK view. I have stayed in SV and LV rooms and it would never be worth the gamble. My LV room in August had a side view of the MK and it was great. We watched the fireworks from the balcony.

Plus, if I was on floor 3 in an MK view, knowing that someone right below me was getting pretty much the same view for SV points, it would annoy me. And, since DVC has decided that lower rooms qualify as MK view, I simply won't use the extra points until that gets changed.

It depends on the trip for me. For winter months around the Christmas holidays - it would be VWL hands down.

For Food and wine it would be BCV.

For all other times, SSR or OKW for the quiet peacefulness. I like that they have a golf course and pretty walking paths.

I guess I can't really pick just one.

One of the huge benefits of DVC in my opniion is being able to stay anywhere where there is a DVC resort. I own at SSR and AKL but never plan to stay at SSR. We bought at both of these resorts due to lower cost. We have never had problems getting into a resort we wanted at the 7 month mark. Our favorite resorts are BCV, VWL and AKL.
