If you could only have 1 book to read to your child(baby) what would it be???

Promise not to laugh. My DGD (5) loves this book and has since she got it as a gift for her 1st birthday. Still read it at least once a week, except now she reads it to me. "Everybody Poops"

I have given this book as a gift many times because no one ever heard of it and DGD quotes it all the time

That is a great book - we keep it for DS in our bathroom. Can you tell we are in the midst of potty training?

If I crawl in my adult son's room at his house 20 years from now - please call the men in white coats to take me away!

I do think the author wasn't being literal - more meaning that the mother would always be there for him, etc. I do still think it's kind of disturbing though. Just my opinion though - many more love this book.

Aw! I love goodnight moon, it's so soothing!

I love when the girls have a book memorized and read their favorite parts with me, makes me all gushy inside.

They like Where the Wild Things are. I always say to them Oh_______
please don't go, I'll eat you up, I love you so! as I nibble on their neck.

I am SOOOO glad there are others who think Love You Forever is strange!! I thought I was the only one! My DM bought it when I had DD and I was like EWWW!! LOL!

My kids liked Old Hat, New Hat. It is more for toddlers, but we all enjoyed that one.

We're on our second copies of Goodnight Moon and Goodnight Gorilla. We love the board book editions for little hands.

In Goodnight Moon, the kids love to try to find the mouse (he's in each picture that shows the whole bedroom). In Goodnight Gorilla, we love to make a surprised "Ha!" sound when we turn to page where the zookeepers wife realizes they aren't alone.

The kids also love Five Little Monkeys Jumping on a Bed, Sandra Boynton's Moo Baa La La La, Are You My Mother?, and The Napping House (haven't seen this one mentioned yet).

DS4 also loves Where the Wild Things Are.

I can assure you that NOWHERE in the book does it say or depict the mom crawling into bed with the son and his wife.

Geez, it's not meant to be taken literally. Yes, mothers don't usually crawl through windows in the middle of the night to rock their sons to sleep. Just like:

- Mice, rabbits and other animals don't really talk - and you probably woudn't give one a cookie or pancake either
- Caterpillars don't really eat cherry pie and other foods and get stomach aches
- Trees don't talk and have friendships with little boys
- Gorillas don't usually round up their friends and follow zoo keepers home

The "Love You Forever" book is just a touching story of the love a mother has for her son, no matter how old he gets. I love how at the end of the story the son goes in to pick up his own daughter in her crib and sings her the same song his mother sang to him. I don't see anything remotely "disturbing" about it!

When I was a kid, I loved it when my uncle would read to me "The Wind in the Willow" by Kenneth Grahame. I loved that book.

I think my favorite is still Dr. Seuss "Oh the Places You'll Go"...

Chill? I'm sorry, not to seem rude but you gave three posts with your negative opinion about the book, and others gave a few as well, am I not entitled to just one defending it? You're right, it isn't a big deal but dont tell me to "chill" because I wrote one post defending it. There are alot of people that haven't read it yet, and I wouldn't want someone who hasn't to think that it shows a mom getting into bed with her son and his wife, which is the impression you gave. That's all.

With my son it was "Barnyard Dance" by Boynton. Very fun one.

I found many of her books more fun and relaxing to read compared with some that began to grate on me....And the kids picked them over and over.

Nice idea for a gift and I think I'll be openly stealing it. : )

It's "relatively" new (compared to the classics already listed) and is called "On the Day You Were Born". Beautiful and perfect for a new baby!

I love this book and give it to all of my new moms.

I also like anything Dr. Suess.
