If you buy, when do you get your first points?

We are planning a trip for next December. We're also planning on buying into DVC around the same time. If we buy in then, do we get the points right away? If so, would it be impossible to use the points because it would be december and most everything would be booked up?

You really would have to buy now to use points for next December, first the paper work would have to go through, then you really need to make reservations for december within the 7 to 11 month window to get what you want. it is a very popular time with members, of course christmas week it is off the charts, over the top busy. the rest of December can be had if you make reservations in early 2006

We didn't book our 12/14-12/22 trip at Saratoga Springs Resort until late July and Member Services seemed to have several options still available. The sooner you book the better, but it seems that rooms were still around five months out this year (we wanted a 2BR for 8 nights).

Our guide had to overcome our fears about DVC's availability of rooms before we even bought. Everything sounded great, lots of resorts to choose from, different sizes of rooms, etc. But I had to be reassured that if we ever made a vacation plan at - God forbid - a mere 4 or 5 months notice, we could still have a high chance of finding a room somewhere.

Seems to be working out so far... I think our family will enjoy any of the DVC resorts, so here's hoping they'll continue to have a room somewhere whenever we get the urge to book a trip.

I've just booked a one-bedroom at OKW for Spring Break, and there were other options available. Just wanted to give OKW a try.

We bought VWL points during Presidents' week (when everything was filled) in 2001. We stayed on cash Sunday and Monday nights, bought the points on Tuesday and used the points instead of cash for the same room for the rest of the week. Anything is possible if you ask.
