I booked the package last night and it didn't look quite right to me. I called back this morning and it seems that they almost always add the trip insurance unless you request them NOT to. So I just knocked down my price by another $119.90 --

8 nights - 2 adults
2 one day base tickets [we have AP's]
Free Dining

$836.34 total!

About $100 day for 2 adults to Stay, Play, and Eat! :thumbsup2

Oh! Maybe that's the way to go for me. Does it still work out cheaper to get the one day base ticket and get APs too? I think that's what we'll do!

Thanks.

Beth

Ok, insurance. Do I really NOT want it? Will it do nothing for me? What about a hurricane? Just wondering, calling today, hopefully.

And thanks for the heads up.

I book a LOT of Disney trips and never once have they automatically added it, but obviously they do that, so good information to pass on.

IMO, I can't see spending $119 PLUS to save yourself $200. And insurance doesn't need to be added on until you make the final payment, simply no reason to.

Upgrade your one day base ticket to the AP when you get there, the value of it goes toward your AP cost.

The insurance is good for when you are there not so much if you cancel before you go. During the hurricanes in 2004 people were stuck in Orlando because the airports were closed. Anyone with the insurance was able to claim their extra nights lodging, food etc through their insurance. That was worth much more then the $119.90 it cost. Anyone that didn't have the insurance had to pay all the extra expenses out of pocket

Learn something new everyday...I never thought about it from that point of view. I always think of it if we can't go. Never thought about delays on the way home. That can get expensive!

I always get the Insurance. You never know if you will have an emergency at the last min. Especially if you have you children or older parents. At least if you have to cancel or reschedule you do not lose everything!!!

Wow, it's rare that the same subject comes up three times on the same day, if the subject isn't due to a current issue. Rather than posting my comments again, here's a link to an earlier message I posted about trip insurance: http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=12129498&postcount=7

Here are some highlights:
... there is often no financial reason to purchase trip insurance. ... Insurance companies are in business to make money ... [so] the only insurance that is "worth" the cost is insurance for things that you cannot afford to pay out of pocket (like medical evacuation from a cruise ships). For any losses you can afford to cover from your own personal savings (if you had to) you're better off "insuring" yourself that way, i.e., if something goes wrong during your vacation, eat the loss, pay the extra costs, and rest assured that you're still making out better than if you had purchased trip insurance for every trip.

My aunt had to be taken off a cruise ship by helicopter for a medical reasons and then fly home to the US. My uncle was very glad they had trip insurance. It was very expensive. They were on the cruise that goes through the Panama Canal.

Just a heads up about the travel insurance. I've learned this since I started doing this for a living (travel agent :) ) From what many clients have told me, many credit cards offer travel insurance as routine. You might want to check what perks your credit card offers and use that to book your vacation. :thumbsup2
