If you book a DVC villa room through Disney, do you get slotted into a room immediately? What if you hate it when you get there, is there no chance to change? Can you find out what room you are booking?

I don’t know when Villas are assigned, but I believe it is the same as Resort rooms, about 5 days in advance.
You will not know what Villa you are assigned until it is cleaned and ready for occupancy.
Since DVC Resorts average greater than 95% occupancy there will be very little maneuverability to change upon checkin.

You can always request a change, but, of course, it all depends on availability. We stayed in a 1-bedroom at CCV the week before Christmas last year and our unit was so close to the water we could hear the electric water pageant three times in the evening. I thought I was going to go bonkers as I can barely handle that music once a night. I went to the front desk and they were able to switch us to a different one bedroom the next day, but availability was super tight. We got lucky.

The water pageant went three times a night? I like that music so that sounds awesome to me. Didn’t know they ever ran it more than once past each lake resort!

Disney doesn’t assign any rooms like that. It’s all done a few days from checkin, and anything can change until you’re actually there. Well, until you’re actually in the room.

If you hate the room you can go ask to be moved. Can’t always be accommodated.

Do DVC members then get varying rooms ? I thought maybe they had specific rooms that when they go, are theirs?

The only difference between booking with points and direct with Disney is when you book direct you know you have the room. No wait list or anything else

As far as you are concerned booking a dvc through Disney is just like booking a traditional room. You use and assignment will be identical to you

Thanks, good to know

I seem to have very sensitive hearing, so I heard it when it went past WL, CR AND Ft. W. After it ended the first time, I thought, "oh good! it's over!". Then I heard it again . . . and again. I literally got out of bed, put some clothes on and went to the front desk. I begged them to put me in another room! We had two choices - one in BRV which they thought might be a little louder and another one in CCV which was closer to the lobby and had a stone balcony which wasn't the greatest (I gave up a view of the higher fireworks), but at least I could sleep at night. So, if you want to hear the electric water pageant three times a night, book WL or CCV and ask for a room closest to the lake!

Members do own an interest in their resort, but DVC is a points-based timeshare. Meaning, their interest in the resort is expressed as points, which are used to pay for stays at DVC resorts. They don’t own a room, and aren’t assigned to a particular room.

DVC ownership is kind of like owning a flex week at a timeshare. You can book any week you want, as long as there is a unit open and you are not trying to book outside your allowed timeframe. There are only a few resorts that actually have a few fixed weeks that are sold to owners. Those owners don't need to make a reservation since it is fixed for every year in the same resort for the same sized unit, but not a specific villa every time. And if they don't choose to go during that fixed week time, they can reserve a different time and villa sized based on the number of points they own.

If you get there and want to change to a different villa, there is a change fee that you will pay if you actually used the villa to get the villa you are leaving recleaned for another guest.

As others have mentioned, your room is assigned similarly to how regular rooms are assigned.

There is very little flexibility in DVC inventory - I would not expect to be able to change rooms. Most DVC rooms are booked solid - same day availability for a room in the same category is not likely for most DVC resorts.
