If you are taking the Western cruise - Do you need Key West information?

Shirley- you and your DH are the BEST! I have sent you an email and will send my SASE to you o Monday. Thank you both!

Anyone sending for the Key West packets, will you please write on the front of the envelope as to when your sailing date is - this is for me to know that I have to take it to Key West with me in order for you to receive it in time and if it isn't until I come back then I can send it from here at Cape Canaveral.
These packets do help you plan where to go, what to see etc.
I also wanted to mention that there is a Chamber of Commerce right there at Mallory Square by the sponge market and a skip and hop from where the Magic is - you can go in there and they would be more than happy to help you - be careful of places that advertise as tourist centers for I found that you pay more by going through this service - its best to make arrangements on your own - Key West is too small of a town to get lost - also remember the Magic is at the North end of Key West and of course the southermost part is at the end of Whitehead Street -
If I can help further, just drop me a note.
Always
Shirley

Shirley,
I'm a third generation conch too -- displaced to the great (?) Northwest. Would you by chance know my Dad, Eggie? First DC planned for May 2005 -- picked Western so we could have a stop, albeit short, home.

Shirley....we will be flying in on the morning of the 8th...so I guess I will be staying on the Disney Magic....nice place to be.....will talk to my wife tomorrow and see what she thinks....we did have a nice time in Key West last May......how many cats are there in the Hemingway house? My wife said theere are plenty......anyway.....thanks to you for the info....looking forward to 6 short weeks.....
Tom

Hi Tom - there are quite a few cats at Mr. Hemingway's so I hear but there are no originals left since he would have them spaded so they couldn't have any more - the 6 toed cats that are left are "donated" - I can remember long ago how much I loved cats and always use to "peek" at them - Mr. Hemingway was the first and only person in Key West to have a black iron fence around his home - it wasn't very high, but so interesting - he kept coral stones in a bag by his door to throw at children - he was just a very "unusual" person - now Mr. Tennessee Williams was a stitch and very down to earth there in Key West - Norman was his mailman and friend for years - you can have a nice time in Key West if you know where to go and where to stay away from.
Anyhow let me know.
Always
Shirley

Hey conchiegirl,
Will you call me at the shop at 800-950-4559 - I recognize the name, but remember everybody was known by a nickname and never called by their given name - and unfortunalty sometimes there were two or three called the same nickname - what year was your dad in school? Let him know that there is a big reunion in Key West at the end of April - the big sock hop is on the last Saturday of the month which will include all the 50's classes - ask your dad if he knew the Nelson girls or Norman Hicks - everybody knew/knows Norman as he was a postman down there for 40 years.
I don't know how long it has been since you have been "home", but nothing will prepare you for the change - it is NOT the place we grew up in.
Anyhow give me a call.
Always

I just wanted to bump this up so that if anyone missed this thread and wanted space coast and Key West information, that it would be seen - also I received a number of envelopes for the packets - so going so close to Norm and my trip to Key West - I am trying to get Norm's daughter to send me some information so I can get it off to you as soon as possible - if not I will take them to the post office and if they need extra postage, I will take care of it so that you will get them in time - just if you will, will you let me know you received them.
thanks a bunch

Hi Shirley!

 Is there an expiration date on the RonJon's coupons? We will most likely cruise in March 2005, want to stay at RonJons the night before, and wondered if the coupons would be good one year from now. Thanks so much for all your help!

Tink :cool2:

Tink - the coupons I have is one left for ron Jon's resort with the code number 300 which I checked and all the coupons had the same code - so I really don't think you will need the coupon if you are calling in - the other coupon I have is for the ron Jon store with 15% off which is great savings - I know cause I have used it to buy stuff there - I only have about 5 left so they are up for grabs.

Shirley,

I am scheduled to sail on the Carnival Glory from Pt Canaveral on October 9th and just found out this week that there has been an itinerary change and we are no longer stopping in Key West due to construction on the dock. Apparently Disney and Carnival must utilize different docks; I was told that the dock would be under construction from May 8th -October 23rd. I am extremely disappointed because I have never been to Key West and had really been looking forward to it. Carnival has substituted a stop in Costa Maya for Key West. I thought maybe while you are visiting Key West perhaps you could find out some information pertaining to this construction.

Have a safe trip.

Linda

Hey there Linda - I will be making a call to Key West sometime this weekend and too I get the paper so will find out what is going on - I had heard that they were going to dredge out more around Mallory Square due to the number of ships that do come into Key West but again will find out and let you know.

I also wanted to add to all of those that sent me their envelopes, I have received about 20 sailing after Norm and I get back so your packets will be filled to the brim --most likely I will mail them from Key West -

I am out of "stuff" except for a few things which wouldn't be much help so anyone sailing AFTER May 2nd, I will have new stuff for you.
Thanks again everyone.

Shirley-
I mailed my envelope to you on Monday, just wondering if you got it or not? I'm hoping I did everything right! Plus, not sure how long it takes to get stuff from Oregon all the way across the country to you!

Karen

Hi Shirley!

I sent an envelope down to you which should be there by now. I also either PM'ed or e-mailed you-can't remember! Anyway, I don't know if I gave you the sailing date but it is July 3!

I need a good book on Key West history. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Karen

Hi Karen,
I have received your envelope and I am taking it to Key West since I can fill it up with a bunch more "stuff" while I am there - thanks for the sailing date cause that gives me an idea of when I must have it there - Norm and I are leaving the last week of April for our class reunion (Norm's 50's year of graduation) - mine was last year - anyhow even tho we are going to be busy with all of our classmates, there will be time to get the info for everyone that wants it. It really does help to have that information on any place you go to especially if you are not familiar with the place.
As I have mentioned many times, be aware of the Tee shirt shops and also the panhandlers - even tho Key West is getting stricker, they still manage to "got ya" dealings - check your receipts and credit card purchase before and after. I love my hometown, but what goes on (which I know its not the only tourist town to do it.
I am very much against and not too proud of it.
Anyhow as for a Key West book - gosh I have so many - I do not mind sharing if you will send it back - you can go into any large bookstores and they have a large selection ----Just let me know ok and I will be more than happy to share.
Take care and keep in touch.
Always

Thank you for the info Shirley! I would love to read a few of your books, but I am a slow "pleasure reader" this time of year. I am usually up to my eyeballs reading for work instead! I have placed a few books in my shopping cart at Amazon and will narrow it down to one soon.

Thanks in advance for picking up my goodies. As I have mentioned to you before, I remember and love that "old Florida" when I lived there in the late 70's-early 80's. It was nothing to head to the Keys or Sanibel Islnd to get away from it all! (It was also fun to skip school and head to Magic Kingdom! We could do it for under $20! :) :)) I can remember driving through the orange groves by Ft Pierce on the way to Disney before I-95 was completed.

Shirley- you probably didn't notice, because there were 2 Karen's that asked the same question, one right after the other, but this Karen (Kabat) also asked if you got my stuff in the mail? :p

Hey first Karen,
I did get your envelope Karebear - in fact I have 3 Karens - I did miss your post tho (so very sorry) - what I don't remember if you put your sailing date on it and if not will have to make sure it is - I am going to send what info I do have so you will have something to go on while in Key West. I am almost out of the goodies.
Also I do intent to find out what is going on with the closing of the piers - I have left word for the mayor to call me and he still hasn't returned my call - will try again today to find out what is going on.
Anyhow hope all is getting excited about their cruise -
Meanwhile Happy Easter everyone and may everyone be super blessed.
