could you possibly PM me some information?

Because of a possible job opportunity for DH, we could be making a move to Florida. The move would be in two years as we want to get our DSs through high school where we are now. It would probably be on the west coast area-Lee County or a surrounding county. I am in a fairly high paying state now,but am trying to find out what my salary would be if this move happened. I am certified to teach K-6 and I am currently working on my Level II certification which I will have when/if we relocate. I will also have 6 years of experience at the time of the move.

Thanks,
Karen

FL teacher pay sucks. Not sure about your area, maybe it's better. My sister has 12 years experience and she's not making all that much. I don't know the exact amount. She used to teach in MA, obviously better pay and better schools there.

Yeah Quinn222, that is what I am afraid I am going to find out. I am in a very well paying district and I am betting it will be cut in have if the move is made. :guilty:

Thanks,
Karen

My sister has a masters in education and teaches honors English, drama and a few other subjects, sponsors the school newspaper and drama club and is head of her department at a large high school in Brandon (just outside Tampa). She has about 5 years under her belt (at the same school) and makes about $35k.

Also know that some districts hire more easiliy than others. One year our county had a HUGE cattle call for teachers--who waited in long long lines to submit resumes and I guess get an interview. Out of the hundreds interviewed, they hired less than a handful.

Left many residents going, HUH???

My brother is an art teacher in Duval County. I'm not sure how much he makes. He's pretty frugal with his money and is doing respectably. Doesn't help you where you are going--but sucky pay is in the eye of the beholder. Noone goes into teaching for the money. It will vary by county though. Teachers who have national certification and/or a masters do make a *little* bit more than their bachelor's degree co-workers. A friend of mine who is a teacher (but doesn't teach--but still works for the school system--she's the computer person who goes around fixing what broke)--she got her master's to make a little bit more. I didn't understand that one as she'd have to work several several more years for it to break even on that investment.
