The article is full of pop-ups, but here's the gist:
Those waiting for It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown to pop up on PBS or any other linear TV service this Halloween season will only find a lump of coal (if I may mix holiday metaphors).
PBS, which as recently as 2021 shared custody of the animated holiday classic with Apple TV+, will for a third straight year not do the same this fall.
Apple TV+ claimed dibs on several Peanuts classics, including A Charlie Brown Christmas and A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, back in October 2020 — removing them from ABC’s purview for the first time in decades. PBS in 2020 and 2021 was allowed in on the action, but since 2022 only Apple TV+ has followed Linus Van Pelt’s quest to meet up with the mythical Great Pumpkin.
That said, Apple TV+ — which fetches $9.99 per month after a free seven-day trial — will, as is now “tradition,” stream for free It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown ahead of Halloween Week, on Saturday, Oct. 19 and Sunday, Oct. 20.
Similarly, Apple TV+ will stream for free A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving on Saturday, Nov. 23 and Sunday, Nov. 24, while A Charlie Brown Christmas can be unwrapped for free on Saturday, Dec. 14 and Sunday, Dec. 15.
