Just curious on the number crunching, here. I hate getting travel insurance; it seems so pessimistic to do it. I know a lot of foreigners get it when then come to Disney World; I can understand that to a degree. You are laying out much more money to do a trip to Disney World.

Anyway, I thought a poll might be interesting about it.

I was on the fence about purchasing the plan. We have never gotten the plan for our past trips. The CM told me when I booked my trip I had to add it within 14 days. Then the next day out of nowhere I broke mt toe:sick: I figured this was a sign to get the insurance. You never know whats going to happen.Luckly our trip is 140 days away so I'll have time to recover. This year the insurance also covers airfare, where in the past it had not

I'ts better to be safe then sorry!

It's the heart of hurricane season. I'd think that would be reason enough.

Yes, I'm getting it. You never know what can happen and I don't think it's that expensive. I'm like a walking Murphy's Law and if something can go wrong, it usually does. LOL

I am on the fence kinda. We are going to Disney from Aug 19 - 31. With free dining suppose to be coming out for Aug 26, we will need two seperate bookings. I will for sure take the insurance for the part that I am paying for the dining plan, however not sure if I will get it for the other part becuase it will only be our hotel stay and 3 1 day disney park passes. Medical for us is covered by our employer. So not quite sure if I will get it on the second booking or not. At least I have till the 12th to decide. Unfortunetly cant book on the 9th since Canadians cannot get the Disney visa card.

I have never gotten travel insurance in the past. And knock on wood I would never have had a reason to make a claim.

But since this coming trip (in Late Aug / early Sept) will be combined with a Disney cruise... I think I may buy it... Hurricane season... and more $$$ on the line for this trip.

quick question. If i get the travel insurance, and a Huricane is going to hit florida, and my trip gets canceled, do i still get free dining when i can reschdule my trip?

I'm sure free dining comes up on an invoice as free or zeroed out; so, I think it could be hard to be reimbursed for something that has no value on the invoice. Your total will not include any value for dining.

You might have a better chance through Disney insurance to get dining free if a bad situation occurred for a future vacation there, but that could be very tricky, too. Even if it's Disney, I can't see them giving you credit for something you didn't even pay for.

This is a very good question and in my opinion decreases the value of having travel insurance even more for a free dining package.

It's like trying to go to Disney during peak season vs. value season. Pricing for the resorts are not the same. If you have insurance for value season you can't expect to go back in peak season, if a bad situation occurred. You will be compensated for your money you paid out, not anything more or less.

Maybe, there are some legal eagles out there that can enlighten us on this issue.

Yes, I will purchase travel insurance because it's a lot of money to shell out and it's also hurricane season. I'm hoping the weather will be great, but you never know.

How much is travel insurance? Is it based on the $ amount of the package? I've never had to get travel insurance so I am new to that. I am concerned about the hurricane season.

quick question. If i get the travel insurance, and a Huricane is going to hit florida, and my trip gets canceled, do i still get free dining when i can reschdule my trip?

I'd guess no unless you reschedule it during the free dining period and there are still packages available.

If you get there, and then have to leave with unused dining credits, you will not be reimbursed for them.

I do not get travel insurance. If a hurricane occurs, I could cancel the package without penalty, cancel or change my flight without penalty, and there's only one of me so the cash outlay wasn't so great, so I'm not that worried about medical reasons. I understand DVC will even work with you about your points regarding a hurricane.

I have insurance for my cruise but that is a much greater cash outlay than a WDW trip.

I am still trying to decide on the insurance thing. Does anyone have a link to the insurance companies site ? I believe it is a third party. It seems like a waste of money if you were only buying the insurance for hurricane reasons. Granted it would cover other valid reasons for canceling too. But with Disney's hurricane policy you will not loose any money if a hurricane threatens. Just suffer the pain of rescheduling and maybe missing free dining.

I know in the past Disney has been great about letting us change dates last minute. I have never wanted a refund so I don't know if that matters. We will not purchase insurance. If I remeber right, last year a lot of people on this board said it would not cover the free dinning part of the trip anyway. I do understand both sides of why or why not though.
