If you are driving to Orlando in the next couple of weeks, bring paper towels and glass cleaner. I drove to Mount Dora and back yesterday. It is about a 45 minute drive each way. My windshield was covered in love bugs when I got there. I had to clean it before I could drive home. I must have had a 100 splatters when I got home. The love bugs are really thick right now.

Wow, they haven't been heavy where I drive yet. I have seen maybe six "pairs" total, and haven't had any on the car yet. I am driving to the east coast later in the week, and I expect to see more over there. Most of my commute is turnpike and 429. I put some car wash solution in a ziplock bag with a car safe scrubby sponge and if I get a bunch on the car I just add water to the bag and scrub away. Sometimes you go through pockets of them. You may see none for a long time and then hit a "cloud" of them.

Ewwwwwwwww!

Note to self - Bring paper towels & glass cleaner!

Thanks for the tip! :thumbsup2

They are really thick near my home, as well. My front porch is white and it is covered with them.

Haven't seen the love bugs here, I don't know what kind of bug attacked my windshield on the way back from Indianapolis. It sounded like a june bug wearing kevlar.

We are considering a late August trip this year or a late May trip next year. Are they very obtrusive at DW?

My whole house is white (roof and all), and nothing. It's funny how they can be very heavy in some places, and not in others. But I've only seen them around for a couple weeks so I expect them to get heavier.

It's interesting how they love white though. The last really bad infestation I went through at WDW it was awful at the bus stops, with the bug covered benches. You couldn't sit anywhere without squashing bugs. The Riverboat was bad too. I never wear white at WDW during lovebug season.

It's so funny how the season starts with a few patches of bugs here and there, and then it seems to explode across the whole state. We were at WDW last weekend, and didn't encounter a single one (or two ;) ) the whole time. On the drive back home to Jax, we had plenty of bug splatter, but none of it was due to love bugs. I've no doubt they're on their way, though!

How long does love bug season last?

Usually 2-3 weeks, which is 2-3 weeks too long. They make such a mess around our house. Some years they are worst then others. We typically find the september round to be worse.

Not sure the official end, but there
were still a lot when we were there last September.

They come in May and then Again in September.

Ah love bug season. Add that to the list of things I won't miss this year now that we've moved out of Louisiana. FYI to car owners, have your car washed regularly, their insides eat paint if left on too long.

Lovebugs are THE only thing I don't like about WDW in May. We are arriving next Monday, so our first stop may be the car wash.

Something I'd recommend, but of course do this at your own risk:

Isopropyl Alcohol (91%) - not Rubbing Alcohol which contains oil.

It works quite well at getting bugs off your paint and windshield. You can usually just wipe it away. I use it in varying concentrations: 10%, 50%, and 100% for the tough spots.

It dissolves the bug bits and I've never had a problem with the paint on my car with doing this. I'd use the alcohol to get the bug bits off and then run it through the car wash so it's all clean when done.

I'm right outside of Jacksonville.

Sunday, we went out to the grocery store and saw probably a couple dozen lovebugs outside.

Yesterday, I was out weedwacking the front yard, and had to put a bandana up over my nose/mouth to keep them from flying into my mouth. ( I can't breathe through my nose due to allergies---thanks DH, for getting cedar mulch for the yard on Sunday when we were shopping. I loved sitting in the car with it, and love having it outside all the doors and windows at home)

Today, my cat is going insane at the windows and sliding back door, trying to get those stupid things. I went to take the trash out and the garage door is covered in those things.

Interesting to know!! We have never been during this season, but I'm glad I seen this so we can be prepared. Are they heavy in the parks too?
