If we've pre-registered, can we pick our first return time right after we've all entered the park? Anything else to that timing I should know?

Yes. The person registered for DAS needs to have entered the park before you can make a DAS Return Time. Any other guests linked to the DAS also need to have entered the park to be added to the DAS Return Time.
Not all attractions will be available to make a DAS Return Time right after the park opens. Some attractions do not open right away at park opening and some will be available after a Standby Wait has been posted.

If you made DAS Advance Selections in connection with doing DAS video registration , those are totally separate from DAS Return Times and they don’t need to be used before making or using DAS Return Times.

You can only have one active DAS Return Time at a time; they stay active until used/cancelled or until the park or that attraction closes for the day.
The person registered for DAS needs to scan first when entering the attraction. The Mickey head will turn blue to alert the CM they need to check. After clearing the scanner, the rest of your group who are included in the DAS Return Time can scan in.
Once everyone has scanned in, you can make another DAS Return Time on the My Disney Experience app (some attractions have 2 scan points; if do, you need to scan into the second one also).
