HAHA!! I just finished expressing my Mini Daschund's anal glands as she was sitting with her butt up--her classic sign--not a fun job but it's gotta be done. Pretty common in the daschund breed. Good to go now!!

Well, when I take my dog in for grooming they clean his anal glands, I just make sure to let them know. Its not the worst thing and I have had dogs all my life. Jo

A good sign that your dog needs this done is if they "poop scoot" across the floor, in a sitting position. All of my cockers have had these issues, one had them removed since they were always impacted. I would recommend the vet doing it, however, since they express INTERNALLY. most groomers will only express externally; yes, i work in a grooming salon, lol. internal expression will last longer and get more out.
