will it be faster than the buses? are there any tolls that we'd have to pay? is it worth it to take our car or is the traffic horrible?

We are driving down so not an issue of needing a rental just wondering...I know we will take the bus some of the time but wasnt sure about the rest...never been this is all of our first trips so not sure what to expect.

Any thoughts or tips??

It depends on which park you're going to. To MK it's definitely better to take the bus since if you drive you have to go to the TTC and then take the monorail or boat.

To the other parks you're probably a bit faster on average taking the car. But not by a whole lot.

I would suggest taking the car. The time savings may only be minimal but once you get back to your car you can relax for a bit before driving off instead of possibly standing on a bus for another 20 minutes. When we have stayed on property we took our car to the parks, even MK.

If you leave in your car and you would have just missed a bus, you will make up around 20 minutes right there. Now, I've been in a car to a park exactly one time. With the exception of the wait for the bus, I really cant see where it saves much time actual resort to gate, or gate to resort. The buses drop you off closer to the gates. If you are in your car, unless you are some of the first cars in, you will wind up taking the tram or walking. Now, ease of use (you can debate dealing with traffic but having your own transport, to letting someone else drive you) is a positive, you can come and go much easier etc, and you dont have to be on the bus with a large group of other folks. The 4 trips I've done I just cant see myself dealing with a car. I think that would actually ruin part of the vacation to me. There wont be any tolls actually on WDW property.

We usually drive except for when we go to MK. Overall it will be a little faster but most importantly, it gives us the peace of mind to know we can leave when we want and if we want to bring a few extras along and keep them in the car, I don't have to carry them along (since I get stuck carrying everything, extra jakcets, shoes, snacks).

If we have a car we drive. It is sooo nice at the end of the day to not have to stand in another line waiting on a bus and then usually stand on that bus or at least be crammed in with a bunch of stinky, cranky, fussy people. If you take your time leaving the park there isn't traffic getting out and even if you don't the traffic isn't to bad and it moves quickly. In the morning it is nice to know exactly how long you need to allow to get where you are going at a certain time (don't have to allow an extra 30 min in case you miss a bus or 1rst was too full) Disney does a very good job keeping traffic moving in the AM and even at the parking toll plaza -which you don't pay but have to show your pass- it moves pretty steadily.
