If we can DREAM it, we can do it! ..... another 30 day vacation Update 02/07

Great update Karin. I liked revisiting Nassau through you. Not sure I would like the food at Remy, except the dessert, I know the rest definately would not eat there. Great picture of you and Tom.

I know and admit I am not cultured, but the meals at Remy just look so unappetizing to me. I want to like it and try it, but each review I read just makes me not want to all the more. LOL. Plus the price ...:rolleyes1

Jen, apart from the "squished" prawn, the food is actually really nice and I am sure you would like it! :thumbsup2
Don't let the fancy names scare you off - in the end it comes back to protein and two veg. :rotfl2:
The price? Well, that is another story! :lmao:

I think the rest of your meal looks really amazing. I am a pretty adventurous diner so I know I would try absolutely everything. It looks lovely!

And that sky in the background - perfect!

I am going to try for a Palo brunch. I have heard wonderful things about it!

Well, we were not quite finished with our meal, YET! :rotfl2:
The actual food is really nice, the fancy names scare of many though. :rotfl2:

If this is your first DCL cruise, Mary Ellen, then I would definitely go for the Palo brunch! :thumbsup2 (Are you doing a 4 night or a 7 night?) They are doing brunches on sea days, so if you are doing a 4 night, you will have to decide if you want Palo or Remy for brunch/lunch. But on a 7 night you could actually try both, to give you an impression of both restaurants. ;) :goodvibes

What a nice picture of the two of you. :goodvibes

Meal looks good... maybe. Not sure bout the tare tare.. desserts look amazing though!

Thank you, Ann!
We had a lovely meal, apart from the "spread out" prawn and maybe the tomato water. ;)
Desserts ......... :cloud9: They are just SO good! :thumbsup2

If the food tasted as good as it looked that must have been an amazing dinner! What beautiful food presentation. I'm a big cheese lover and your cheese pate looked amazing! So did the chocolate - yum!

It was really good. And we just forget about the prawn tartare! ;)
And it is not only the presentation, the service is outstanding. And our extra bonus was that we knew Mathieu! We had a blast and there was lots of giggling going on.

The cheese trolley is absolutely amazing. We let Mathieu decide which cheeses he put on our plate and we were in cheese heaven with it. He even wrote down the names of the cheeses and now, when we go to France we can have another taste of them.

Great update! :)

Thank you! :goodvibes

I'd be happy with just that cheese plate :thumbsup2

Perhaps it is because I spent so many years in the restaurant business but when I see meals like Remy it reminds me of a phrase we used to use with certain chefs who really focused on the art of things and that often those types of dining experiences could be more "interesting" than delicious. Not that they can't be both and at times are but I often get the impression of trying to hard for the sake of impressing others, rather than necessarily focusing on what might be more important to me. I enjoy doing that type of thing occasionally but boy would it make jeff crazy, So not his cup of tea. Not that he isn't adventurous, he is but just not his thing.

Really lovely picture of the two of you!

I could do with another one of those cheese plates right now myself! :goodvibes

To be honest, if Remy should portrait an upscale French restaurant, than I still need to come across one like this. ;)
It's Disney's over the top impression of a French upscale restaurant.

Hi Karin

I am so far behind with everyone's TRs!

Great review of Remy. It looks like you enjoyed some of the courses more than the others but had a great evening anyway

We absolutely loved our dinner there and I had a totally vegetarian dinner that was simply incredible :)

Looking forward to the next instalment

Linda, happens to the best of us that we are behind on someone's TR. ;) :lmao:
I hope you enjoy your Alaskan cruise and that there is a nice dinner/brunch at Palo in your very near future!

I agree what a nice picture of you guys!!

Thank you, Michelle!

I am now very hungry. :rotfl2:

Great update and pics. The food looked so good.

Don't worry, there is MORE food to come! :rotfl2:

Wow Karin that was a MEAL!!! Soooo many courses , how did you eat it all ???Everything looked wonderful!!I recognized one of the cheeses , Blue cheese , maybe stilton???

Dining at Remy is really nice, Rosie!
I agree with you, there are a lot of courses, but the actual amount of food per course is not all that large, so you can pack in more. :lmao:
The blue cheese was a Roquefort. :thumbsup2

I enjoyed the pictures of your meal at Remy. Love the picture of you and Tom.

Teresa you definitely should give Remy a try. If not for dinner, try for lunch. Similar menu, not as many courses and perfect service. ;)

Great update Karin. I liked revisiting Nassau through you. Not sure I would like the food at Remy, except the dessert, I know the rest definately would not eat there. Great picture of you and Tom.

Thank you, Elaine!
Somehow it has not really sunk in yet, that we won't be back in Nassau this summer. :lmao:
I am sure you would like most of the things on the menu at Remy. The young folk ..... hm, I am doubtful. ;)

Just checking in before my next trip !!Off to Vermont tomorrow !!!!

And you are already back again, Rosie. Doesn't time fly? ;)

Hi Karin!

I fell behind again - dang life and its way of taking over the DIS!

Your Remy meal looks amazing! I managed to book a Remy dinner and the champagne brunch for our upcoming cruise. Of course, since my traveling companion is 6 years old, I will be on my own for both meals. Hope it is not too awkward! I'm not too worried - I haven't dined by myself much in recent years, but I have never minded it in the past - very relaxing!

I love all your food pics. I think they really help the rest of us decide what to do! :cool1:

Falling behind, happens to all of us at one time. Real life interfering with our DIS life. ;)

We had such a fun time at Remy, especially since we got to meet Mathieu again. ;)
Yippie for getting both a lunch and dinner reservation at Remy for your upcoming cruise. Don't be worried, you won't feel out of place dining on your own. ;) I would invite you to join us, but even though we have a reservation for lunch, we are still unsure if we will go through with it. :scared1:

I have A LOT more food pics to share ............ :rolleyes1 :rotfl2:

Day 17, August 27

A little bit of shopping, a French dinner and no fireworks ……. - Part 5

But there are still the Mignardises, a tasting of sweets from the kitchen.

There were

homemade marshmallows,

small baked pancake dough cakes,

house made dark and milk chocolates and two small bitesize biscuits, topped with vanilla mousse. But wait, that’s not all,

there were leaves, made from puff pastry sprinkled with caster sugar, and

light and dark toffees with nuts. We asked Mathieu if he would be able to package those for us and he pointed out the ones we needed to eat right away, but he was glad to package up the rest for us.

Time had flown by and we had been at the restaurant for more than two and half hours and when Mathieu returned, we signed the bill, left Mathieu a large tip and his chocolate goodie bag.
When he learned that we would be on board for the next cruise as well, he was determined to talk us into another meal at Remy. He even brought over the Maitre d’, who was sure he “would be able to fit us in” again and the chef would prepare a different menu for us.
Now, that definitely won us over and we agreed that if he could fit us in we would be back on the next cruise as well. Then I was handed two roses, one from the Maitre d’ and one from Mathieu before we headed out to the check-in desk, where our reservation was confirmed and the previous one we had had for Palo was cancelled.
We were in a very good mood when we returned to our stateroom, emptied the Fish Extender and walked inside

to see another greeting from Remy. A small box with 4 handmade chocolates.

There was also someone else in our stateroom, a monkey, made from towels.

We got changed into some much more comfortable clothes and sat on the bed for a while, before it was time to head to deck 12 for the pirate party and the fireworks. There were lots of people up on that deck but we were able to find a good spot from where we could watch the fireworks.

We waited, it got past the time the fireworks had been to blast off, but the party was still going on. We heard people talk that they were running behind, but the later it got, the more we started to wonder. There were far more people working up on the funnels where they fire the fireworks from than usual. And finally after nearly half an hour's wait there was the announcement everyone had been dreading, the fireworks were cancelled again. Their crew was working hard to get them working again, but they would need much more time and they would try again the next day.
Most of the people stayed and still enjoyed the pirate party, but Tom and I were too tired. We fought our way to an exit, then walked inside and back to our stateroom. We quickly got ready for bed and were fast asleep about 20 minutes later.

To be continued ............

Oh those chocolates look delish !! So glad you enjoyed Remy !!! What a Bummer No Fireworks !!! I am finally home for a few weeks !! Should be all caught up with my work and can take a day off here and there just to relax !! But I am sure Judy will have other plans for me:rotfl2:I just started working on my Memory books and I have the first 1 done and will use that as the model for the next 7 !! First one always takes longest , after that I can whip thm together pretty quickly !! :goodvibes

Oh my goodness....I took a little (ok, very extended) break from the DIS and I came back to this 92+ page report! I remember reading your pre-trip plans and I can't wait to dive in and hear all about the trip. Glad to find you again! :goodvibes

The food looks good.,
When I cruise I am taking you with me so I can get the treatment you do. LOL
Too bad about the fireworks.
All caught up again.

Oh those little desserts looked soooo good! I have a big sweet tooth so they look like my cup of tea. I don't think I would have made it up to the pirate party after that delicious meal. I think I would have just crashed!

Oh, your Remy treats look amazing!

Really a shame about the fireworks though.

Falling behind, happens to all of us at one time. Real life interfering with our DIS life. ;)

Oh my gosh!!! Do you know that, when I posted my prior response, I had TOTALLY forgotten that we are on the same cruise in August???? I tell you, my brain cells are just dying away faster than I care to believe! Well, maybe I will get lucky and you will keep your reservation and it will happen to be the same day and time as mine! :thumbsup2

All of those sweets from Remy are awesome. We had a blast with Mathieu, even if we got the "evil eye" from the Maitre d' for a few times, because of all the giggling going on at our table.
I can't believe you will be home for "a few weeks". :lmao: So unusual for you.
And you have to do 8 memory books? Wow. That sounds like a lot of work. Good luck.

:welcome: back!
And even though you took a break, I have not even come close to finishing the TR. :rotfl2:
But I will ...... soon ...... one more week of school and then this should get finished quickly. :thumbsup2

They were, Teresa. :thumbsup2

Cruise food always looks awesome - only downside ....... there is too much of it. :rotfl2:
Yes, it was disappointing to wait for the fireworks and then they were cancelled, but that's life. ;)

They are really spoiling you at Remy. I have a sweet tooth myself, but after that meal it was just WAY too much. It left overs lasted us for a few more days. :lmao:
We needed to move a little bit, we were too stuffed from our dinner. ;)

Oh, your Remy treats look amazing!

You are going to love your Remy lunch! It is so nice and quiet and the view of the ocean :cloud9:
As for the fireworks - there were still some days left for them. ;)

Day 18, August 28

Another day in paradise - Part 1

We got up when it got light outside at around 6.20am. A quick look outside and we were getting close to Castaway Cay already.

We had ordered breakfast for 7am, so we took turns in the shower and got dressed and ready for the day. At 6.55 there was a knock at the door and our breakfast was delivered.

We took it out onto the veranda to enjoy it, while docking at Castaway Cay. Our breakfast was about the same as the last time we had been at Castaway Cay. There was

coffee for Tom, and

tea for myself, I had ordered some orange juice, while Tom wanted to give the

chocolate milk a try. We had ordered a

fruit bowl,

bagels and some cream cheese and

some croissants that came with

an assortment of jams. And while we sat outside enjoying the breakfast the DREAM was docking at Castaway Cay.

And this time it went much quicker than the last time and we were happy to hear all the Mickey whistles once we had made it there.
Once we had finished breakfast we got ready to go ashore, put on our Cabana bracelets and grabbed our bag for the day. We got off the ship and slowly strolled over to the tram.

It was still early and we were within the first people to get ashore. We got on the next tram out and got off at Pelican Plunge.

We walked down to beach and explored a bit as this is a part of Castaway Cay we don’t usually go to.

From where we were we could see the Family beach Cabanas and were excited to see that Michelle and her family had just arrived and were exploring the area.

So, a few photos later we headed back to the tram and got on our way out to Serenity Bay.

To be continued ............

Hi Karin

I am back from Alaska and catching up with everyone's TRs

Great updates from you as always, glad you had such a wonderful meal at Remy :)

By the way, Alaska was amazing!!!

Lx

Clicked on your TR just in time to see all your wonderful morsels from your Remy dinner. Yum! I can always count on you for some fantastic food porn.

Love that you wake up as you as pulling into Castaway Cay! What a fantastic view to start the day with!

Question - do you have to order coffee to be delivered to your room first thing in the morning? Where else and what time can you get coffee? I am addicted it and basically need it the moment my feet hit the ground.

BTW- I have a new TR going for my HHI & WDW trip (combo TR), so stop by when you get a chance!

Karin I didn't explore that beach either other than the part where Marv rested on a lounge chair and examined the flower beds up close !!!:rotfl2:The adult beach was like a piece of heaven sooooo serene and I loved how a couple of the guys just took their chairs out into the water ( properly sunscreened ) and enjoyed !!:goodvibes
