If using the DDE card, is the tip now included?

I remember hearing a while back that if you had the dde card, they may be adding 18% gratuity to the bill after taking 20% off, therefore a net savings of only 2%. Are they now doing this?

Yes, some servers have been letting the guests know, others don't so it's good to know.

We just got back and used the DDE card for every meal and not once did a server mention that the tip was included in the total. Lucky for me that the disboards had already filled me in on it so I checked every ticket before completing. It was kind of confusing because they still had a tip line blank at the bottom with recommended percentages but once you read the detail, you saw that 18% had been added.

Just back and YES the tip was added to every TS location we visited and every lounge. And yes, do check. At WCC we were at the lounge and our table was ready, so I left DH with the instructions to check for the tip. It was added, but he tipped anyhow, so the server got a 36% tip. Next time I took care of the bill. Not once did any of the servers point out the new policy or that the tip was already added. Many times we did hear them complain about having to telling folks about the tip NOT on the DDP. Most do not like being in the position to "ask" for a tip.

We recently returned from a MLK extended weekend trip and found a couple of issues with the new auto-tip policy. The first, and most easily dealt with, was when checking in with the host/ess. They would ask if we were on a dining plan. The first couple of times we said that we were using the DDE and we saw a notation on the table slip that the seater would leave for the server. At least one of our servers seemed to take advantage of the auto-tip, it's hard to say for sure. Our solution to this was to classify the DDE as not a "plan", answer no to the host's question, and present the card with our payment.
The second problem was a bit more troubling and had to do with how well Disney communicated the change in policy. Some of our servers mentioned the automatic gratuity, while most of them did not. Of those who did not, some spread the slips showing the details of the bill for easy viewing while some folded the detail sheets and showed only the signiture slip with the total and a space for gratuity. If you didn't know the policy it would be normal to double tip. The worst offender was a server at 50's Prime Time who ommited the detail sheet showing the tip already added from the folder altogether. In the cases where the server mentioned the policy we thanked them for mentioning it and left a small extra amout. Those that didn't had to make do with the 18% which saved us from the 20% or more that we tipped on our own.

I wish Disney would simply do away with tipping, give each server a 5 dollar an hour raise, and fire those who do not give 100% attention to the customers.

I understand the price of food/service would go up, but in reality the total amount the customer pays would stay the same, as they wouldn't tip.

This whole game of tip or no tip 15 or 18 or 20%, is it in the plan, is it not already added has become bothersome.

Charge me 5 dollars more for my meal, and if the server doesn't do a good job, fire them, just like in any other profession.

We came back just this past Sunday, and did have every server, save one, tell us that the 18% was already figured in. So that would be at: CG, Jiko; R&C; WCC; B&C; Biergarten and BD. There were some other spots. The only place they DID NOT put it on the bill was Tutto for some reason. Of course, we added it in.
We felt we got some of the most excellent service ever this trip & we told all the servers we had the DDE card right at the begining.

We did hear of a few of folks on DDE that did not know of the change.
But mostly when we spoke with fellow diners, we heard a lot of complaints about their TAs or CMs who sold them the DDP, not making them aware of the changes, ie no appetizer, no tip included.
When this came up I asked when they purchased the plan, and at least 4 parties said it was since January 1. Interesting

JimDVC--perhaps not a bad idea, except that $5.00 an hour raise would hardly do it. Would probably need to be a LOT more than that to attract and keep good servers. No one in their right mind would want to wait tables for the "general public" at $8.00 an hour and no tips.

Ok make it 10 more an hour, 15 more I really don't care.

I hate getting a bill for 237.98 cents and then sitting there trying to decide was the service "ok" or "good" or "great" and then tipping the proper amount, and then wondering if income taxes will be paid on that, if it was already in the bill, did I tip enough, to much blah blah blah.

Raise the price of my meal 15,18,20% do away with tips all togather, and have the MGR watch the service people and fire the ones who don't do the proper job. That's the way it is in 99% of jobs in the world, I have never understood why being a waitress wasn't that way also.

(and yes I do know it saves the resturant the 7.5% social sec match on income)

We were just back and almost every server told us that there was a tip included. In the few cases the server did not the host/hostess reminded us when seating us that DDE changed it's rules and that a tip would be added.

The service was just fine in every case . . . I probably would have tipped a little more to get to an even dollar amount.

Really, who cares whether a server is reporting everything earned (with most tips on creditcards they likely are anyway)? And why the problem with leaving a good tip when you get a big discount?

Ok i am new to these boards... can someone tell me if you are talkin about the regular dining plan, the delux dining plan or both?

Hi, Stephanie, and Welcome!

This is the DDE, the Disney Dining Experience. It's not the Disney Dining Plan (regular or Deluxe). The DDE is a flat 20 percent off most table service restaurants at WDW, including alcohol. It's available to FL residents and annual passholders.

Hope this helps and great to have you on board!

Used our DDE card the last two nights (Narcoossees and Artist Point), both times tip added. One server pointed it out, and I think the other circled it. Even with the tip, we still save money on dinner, drinks and parking. Just have to check the bill. FWIW.
