What Will Happen If This So Called Strike Occours? I KNOW!!!

1) Disney Employees are not allowed to strike per the employee policy manual.

2) If The Strike Does Occour, There Will Be Minimal If No Impact On The Operations Of The Resort.

3) There are a group of salaried cast members that are doing something called "cross-utilization" What does this mean? If the strike does get big enough, they call in line managers, office and technical personel, people who normally work behind the scenes to participate in front line roles. I know of three of my friends who work in the Payroll department at a resort and were cross-trained on how to be a bellman, one guy that works at Team Disney (the real business offices of WDW) that was trained on how to be "friends" with the characters. This way, we can take care of no. 1... OUR GUESTS. You never know, Lee Cockrell, Vice President of Operations for WDW may be the one serving you that ice cream cone at auntie gravitys!!!

4) Dont worry, everything will be back together really shortly after this whole thing is sorted out.

You would need a CDL if you were driving a bus on PUBLIC roads but since all the roads in Disney are technicaly private I think they could have a ten year old drive them.

I just returned from Atlantic City where most of the service personnel were on strike. The strike was settled but the workers were not returning until the following day. When we arrived our rooms were clean and ready. We had to self park, no valets and a few bellmen. No problem we just wheeled our luggage to the room and saved on tips. Some of the restaurants were closed but they had the larger ones open and staffed with office personnel from other properties they ran. Our waitress was flown in from St. Louis, she was actually a payroll person. The dishes were plastic, but the service was great. She was friendly and helpful an we had a great time with her and the other guests. Apparently before we arrived this is what happened. all the rooms were cleaned and supplies with extra, such as towels and toilettries. There was no housekeeping on the second day but clean towels were supplied. It really was more like staying in a timeshare where you didn't have housekeeping everyday. As long as the room was thoughly cleaned before I checked in I could deal with that. I wouldn't be concerned that much about the resorts and cleanliness or food. If AC could handle it I'm sure Disney can.

The real problem I see is with the buses. Those drivers could be difficult to replace. It wouldn't be too much of a problem for those who rent a car but if you rely on buses, that might be a problem.

Hopefu;;y all this worry is for nothing but whenever I go on vacation I try to relax and be flexible. Everything approached with a light heart and a good attitude will be fine.

Technically.......Regardless of the roads being public OR private it is a state/federal law that ALL bus drivers need a cdl class b license plus a bus drivers permit, which you can only get after completing a 8 hr initial class then every year a 4 hr refresher. Plus you are federally screened to be a driver. Then you need a DOT physical & drug screen.
Then if the buses have air brakes (which Disney does) the driver must also have an air brake endorsment on the license. All of this on top of whatever traning that Disney does sooooo no 10 yr olds can drive.
There is more going into being a bus driver than people think, let's not forget they also have to listen to everyone's complaints and do it with a smile on their faces.
Sorry if I soud a little hmmm miffed but I drive a bus and I just get so upset when people think that drivers are ignorant

I hope it's settled soon, not only because we have CM's who are friends, and I'd like to see them settled before the holidays, but because we'll be there Dec 1st (our 28th trip!) and we won't cross a union picket line.

I know that they have a lot of "office" people who could don custumes, but the bus drives are much harder to replace. I know the one from our church took a lot of training to become a bus driver. He actually started out at Disney under the college program, but enjoyed people so much, he changed careers. And you are talking about a lot of bus drivers..even if Disney had a few non union people who knew how to drive, I'm sure it would be a drop in the bucket.

You are absolutely correct about the CDL. I hope this matter is settled soon. As many times as we have rode the buses, we have had little problems. I respect them & the job they do. We usually have quite a comedian driving us keeping us entertained the whole ride.

Not to mention the legal headaches if they threw just anyone behind the wheel and there was an accident, ohh I could here the lawyers phones ringing now.

Just as an FYI, you'd be suprised how many people have CDL licenses.

My husband is a technical analyst, yet he has a Class A CDL with a hazmat endorsement due to the job he had while in college. He keeps it up, including his DOT physical (with drug screen) every year, becuase hey, you never know.

Many people leave the military with class A and B licenses, including passenger endorsements.

My bet is that there are quite a few "nmanagement, technical, and professional" workers at WDW who are quite able to legally and safely fill many transportation roles.

Tammy1966 is quite corrent, not just anybody can drive, and Federal Laws are very strict on this.

I would imagine that Disney already has plans worked out with Mears to use their drivers in a charter role.

Hopefuly this entire thread is moot.
