If resorts closed, will DVC rental companies and Hotwire refund your money?

I cannot nor do I disagree with anything you have said. Personally, if I was in the owner's situation, the money would be refunded even though I would have no obligation to do so. That's just me.

I do understand that but it’s wrong to say the owner is not losing anything. Canceling the contract, returning the deposit, leaves the owner without funds they planned on and contracted for. Yes, they may have points back, but if they rented for the funds, then they can only be made whole via contract with original renter by engaging in another rental contract..which could put them at risk of the same thing happening.

I agree. I guess this is where it gets risky on both ends though. How detailed is the contract? And when is the final payment due date? These things all make a difference. If someone says they would like to cancel and receive a refund they are giving an option for the owner to far in advance rent the points (or attempt to rent) or use the points for themselves. Remember a deposit is a partial payment for a room. If the room is not rebooked and the owner is unable (or does not want) to secure a new reservation then I would imagine the owner would 100% get to keep the payment since they are out the funds they could have had.

But if they re-rent they then receive two room payments on the exact same room. Isn't that the definition of double dipping?

Again I am not a lawyer or a judge, just playing devil's advocate really. It might not be as easy as washing your hands clean and keeping the deposit if you plan to use/rent the points

Well, it might be if the renter can prove they go the same amount of money for the re rented points. The contracts list they are non refundable and a renter knows that. I look at it as my Priceline rental that I couldn’t make. I was not entitled ot a refund because it was available for me and I didn’t show up. I have no way of knowing if they rented that same car again, All I know, is I wasn’t eligible because the reasons I didn’t use it was t weather related.

Keeping a deposit if agreed upon by the renter would appear to be a settlement in which both parties agree to as a way to void the contract, Remember, this renter doesn’t have to accept that and can continue with the contract.

This thread was about current closures, and I do agree that is a whole other issue and it would seem that does put the ball in the renters court, As I said, I know renters have been successful with getting their money refunded after filing a dispute with a CC company. For me, that is a huge setback for brokers,
