We are going next week, and the long-term forecast calls for rain. Anything special I should plan for if it rains? It would be a huge bummer if it rains more than a little bit!

Take a second pair of shoes and a cheap rain poncho--or several 99cent ponchos from Wal-Mart or similar store. If you try, you can make the most out of a rainy day when many people are hiding from the rain.

Is it miserable and depressing in the rain at the parks? Someone please tell me it NEVER rains ALL day in January in Orlando!!

Most of the attractions at WDW are indoors, and many of the outdoor ones operate in even a heavy downpour. If there's lightning in the area, those outdoor offerings will temporarily close (at MK, we're talking fewer than 10 of around 40 attractions... nothing to lose sleep over.)
Be prepared to withstand the rain while walking between attractions by packing ponchos, extra shoes, and umbrellas.
Hopefully the rain will not be around for very long (day-long rains are rare in FL) or contain lighting.
Focus on what can be done (which is most of what's available) and relax.

I hate to bring myself bad luck by saying this but.. I wouldnt worry!! we are also going next week and it looks like maybe a cold front going through so it will rain maybe just while the front passes through. then it should be pretty!! (But cold)
Have a great trip and dont forget your lime green ribbon!!!!

Extra shoes, as Safari Steve and tiberius say. help considerably. I'm not much of a poncho person - I prefer a simple hat. But I'd tour anyway. My sister's WDW motto is "Rain culls the weak from the herd." Did I mention I'm frightened of her?

P.S. I'll be in WDW from January 6-11 for my brother's wedding. Should you see anyone walking around in a white Unofficial Guide t-shirt, that'd be me. Stop and say hey.

Thanks Len! We will be there from the 6th to 11th too! I will be wearing the ice-cream-stained t-shirt, accompanied by 4 over-sugared kiddies. Say hello if you see me.

Let's pray to the sun gods together....

We had one of our best days in the rain actually. We put on our ponchos and were the only ones on the bus to MGM. This park is great on a rainy day. The attractions are mostly indoors as are the queues. It let up around 12:30, and we had the park to ourselves!

We hopped over to MK and all rides were walk-on's. If I were you, I'd welcome the rain!!

During my 2001 trip, it rained several times. I had heeded warnings and had ponchos prepared. What impressed me MOST about WDW and the rain is that people donned their ponchos and KEPT ON GOING!!!! Some people in St. Louis often can't even DRIVE in the rain, let alone go from one ride to the next!! But, there we are were: the yellow brigade charging forth!! It was awesome to behold!!

So, if it rains, we slap on the 87 cent ponchos we got from Walmart and forge ahead like our brethern of the past!! Rain doesn't have to ruin anything!! Yipppeeee!! I LOVE WDW!!!!!!

P.S. HEY all you people going anywhere between the 6th and the 14th--I'll be there too!!!!! I'll be wearing my LIME GREEN!!!!!! And I can't WAIT to meet my fellow DISers!!!!!! Please Please Please look for us so that I can say hello and personally thank you for all of your support with regards to Josh!!!!

I have never seen such a beautiful sight as the Magic Kingdom during and after a rainstorm. We walked on to EVERYTHING, absolutely no waits for anything, even Space Mountain. Even after it cleared up, no one was around. So I say, bring it on! Let it rain a little so all the wimps leave!

AMEN Sister!!!! We'll be right behind you enjoying the "lack of scenery!!!"

It is really a great experience to have it rain. We walked onto everything. With a poncho it it not a problem11:teeth:

Even the DH had to admit he was grateful I kept everyone on track.

Tiberius's sister if right on the money!!

You guys are just cracking me up! ha ha ha

Yup, rain is good! I will be ready with my poncho!

Anyway, it doesn't rain for a long time in Florida. It rains for a while and then it's gone. It's not like other places were it'll rain the whole day!!

We were there a couple of weeks ago & it rained all morning when we were in MGM. We bought the Mickey ponchos (forgot to pack our own), but only $6 - well worth it if it's pouring all morning. We walked straight onto TOT, then straight onto RnR twice in a row, then back to TOT. :hyper: The only disapointment we had was Raiders of the Lost Ark - the sets were so wet that they were only able to perform scene 1 of 3 due to the safety of the stuntmen (stunt people?). Otherwise....a GREAT DAY!!

You're going to need thoes paunchos anyway to protect those cameras, cellphones, and walkietalkies from water on some of the water rides (Kali River, etc). Just have fun, It's Florida.

I bought those 99-cent ponchos from Target. They don't look re-usable. They look like garbage bags with hoods! What color are the ones sold down there? I prefer not to lose my kids in a sea of yellow/red/whatever.

Thanks for your help. I LOVE the quote "The rain culls the weak from the herd". That's a good one!!!

Buy some camping ponchos, but a different color than yellow-get blue or orange or red, then your group will stand out and you will be able to find them easier should you get lost from one another. Since most of the attractions are indoors you shouldn't miss out on much if it is raining.

The ones sold at WDW are clear with Mickey on the back. They are definately reusable. However, if you want to keep track of your herd, buy a specific color before you go. There was a sea of clear plastic ponchos with Mickey on the back when we went. Yellow was popular too.
