If it wasn't for bad luck...we would have NONE! UPDATE...

Lisa and I have been without a car since April 28 when a man fell asleep at the wheel and plowed into our parked car destroying it. We are STILL waiting for the insurance settlement.

Lisa's brother graciously offered us his second car which although an older car is in great shape. After much deliberation and waiting we were finally able to have her go and get it. We live in NYC and John is in Kentucky. So, we flew her out and she drove back.....17 long hours.

No sooner does she get back here and the car starts to beep. No engine light or anything, just a beep. She calls John who assures her that she must have left the blinker on too long....it does that. So, not to worry.

Today as she was driving home the car starts to smoke! Luckily she was almost home and pulled into the garage we use. The mechanic will let us know in the morning what the verdict is.

WHY????? What did we do???? Are we not supposed to have a car???It is SO frustrating to wait so long, and spend so much on things to get it here and have it go kerflueey. The oil was just changed, it just had a tune up, it ( up to this point) ran like a top. I just don't get it.......

Thanks for letting me rant a bit, it has been a frustrating evening.

*** We heard from the mechanic this morning. Our car needs a new radiator, gasket and a few other moderately expensive things. Bottom line it is fixable and worth fixing. So, it was not as bad as we had anticipated. Now I just hope and pray that this is the last of it!!!

Oh boy, Linda... that sounds awful. I am sorry that two cars have been 'bad' for you. Just think positively and that the third time's the charm. {{hugs}} to you and Lisa.

Hang in there...you're just paying up the 'karma bill' in advance, and it'll go smoothly from now on! Any chance it's State Farm you're waiting on? My dad had someone plow into his parked car years ago in NY (Long Island) and it took a few months for them to reimburse him for the repairs and A YEAR for reimbursing him for the rental.

At least NYC has good public transportation...

Nothing is more frustrating than not to have a car that doesn't work! I'm sorry the insurance settlement is taking so long from the accident. What is their reason it is taking so long?

It was a small no name insurance company from Alabama. The guy was grossly underinsured and the company advised anyone with collision insurance to subrogate against them. Everyone else who was hit, and there were 5 cars in a line, with ours being the first car, had collision. Ours was the only one that did not. We were driving a 1992 Jeep and Geico, our insurance company told us not to put collision on it because the premiums would cost more than any claim would pay.

We have been in contact with the other guy's insurance company on a weekly basis and the claim that after 3 months they have only gotten 2 of the 5 claim reports. I personally think they are just dragging all of this out so they don't have to pay for awhile. It is SO darn frustrating. It is a good thang that we live in NYC so that we can rely on public transportation.

As for the car we were just given, it is totally frustrating that the car does not have a single problem until the title is signed over to Lisa and she drives it here. It makes me SO angry that we just seem to be a bad car magnet.
