it would take me 32 hours each way, and gas will cost $997 according to the calculator I did. Plus we would get a hotal half way so that is another $100. I choose the $871 in airfare. LOL Plus we'd have to add anoter 3 days onto our trip for driving. Ick. Flying wins!

:lmao: DH and I drive 2 hours west to New Orleans to take a direct fight east of 1 hour 45 min to Orlando. DH doesn't like to travel. Our tickets where about $600 total. The last time we drove I had worked all day and we stopped in Lake City overnight. Got there around midnite. Woke up at 3 a.m. and DH was sitting on the other double bed fully clothed with the door to the room open.:scared1: When I asked "What the H$#@!" all he could do was  and say " Mickey is waiting, Mickey is waiting". How could you not love a guy like that---but we no longer drive.

He sounds like a keeper. :)

We're 10 hours away by car, so it's better for us to drive. In December we will leave after work Thursday and drive as far as we can. Hopefully at least to Valdumpster, GA. We will get up early Friday, hump it to the Hard Rock and hopefully have plenty of time to hit IOA that day.

Wow, you must be 2,500 miles away! That's WAY too far even for us. We are at 1025 miles each way and 17 hours which is VERY doable for us, at todays price, it cost us right around $300 round trip for gas, no hotel. MUCH cheaper and less stressful than driving for us.

No way would I even consider a 32 hour drive each way, unless I was doing a month long road trip that included many other destinations and not just Disney.

OP, I don't know how you could even remotely consider driving! OMG! That would torture me. We just returned from a week in Williamsburg, VA which is approx 6 hr drive and that is really my max for driving. Due to traffic coming to a screeching halt so many times on the drive down, it took 7.5 hrs. The kids joked about staying on I95 all the way to FL but really, after this past week, I'd rather have my eyeballs plucked out with fishing hooks. :headache:

And how some people think that being among the speed demons doing 100 and tailgated everyone is safer than flying is beyond me. :rolleyes1 I'd even fly to PHL from home if I could.

The absolute most we ever paid for airfare is $1200 for our family of 4 and that is for our Easter 2012 cruise but we knew when we chose those dates it's holiday time and we expected higher fares. It's usually between $700-900 and all worth every penny. :cloud9:

Did you travel on a Saturday? Those of us on the 2000+ miles thread know that Saturdays are brutal on 95 between DC and Richmond. Sorry you didn't know about the pain of 95 on Saturday (if that's what you did).

Yes, it was a Saturday but we didn't have much choice. The check in date for our timeshare was actually Fri but I had to work that day and don't get home til 6pm. My sister had breast cancer surgery the previous weekend so things have been hectic and we weren't even close to being ready to leave Fri after work. Plus, Fri nights around here means tons of shore traffic.

Even if I could have the whole road to myself, I'd still rather fly. If I start watching a movie on my ipod touch while sitting at the gate, I might be able to watch the whole thing before landing at MCO. Works for me. :thumbsup2

We drive to California at least once a year and that is an 18 hour drive. It is brutal. However, we usually don't get much traffic. Now snow is another story. We have driven home in a blizzard at least twice. UGH! That freaks me out.

We have a 21 hour drive, and do it without an overnight on the road. The times we have tried to stop for the night we are too excited to sleep !! We usually have a couple of hour long naps along the way.I worked nights for 24 years, so I have no problem driving through the night. AND...my DH refuses to fly,so that means if I want to go to my happy place, we drive !!

The funny thing is, after what felt like an eternity, we passed the sign for Lorton, VA, where the AutoTrain leaves from. So people drive for hours just to reach the train which is then another 20+ hrs to get to FL. :crazy2::sick:

To each his own I guess.
