Great job! It's not that difficult to eat for $50 a day, is it?

Thanks!! It's fun and I find it helps pass the time between trips.

Just so everyone knows, I will take requests. If someone wanted to give me some parameters I could sort of tailor make an eating plan with their preferences in mind. :thumbsup2

I loved reading this thread! Makes me wish we weren't doing the dining plan on our trip this fall. lol

How about using either crystal palace or akershus lunch buffet in your plans?

Ooooh, a challenge!!

Lunch at Akershus is $43.56 after tax and tip. That leaves breakfast and dinner for $6.44. You'd have severely limited options if you were sticking to the actual total of $50 for the day, although it becomes much easier if you're AVERAGING $50 a day.

The following is exactly $50.

Breakfast at Sunshine Seasons...oatmeal.
Lunch at Akershus...Princess Storybook Lunch
Dinner at Boulangerie Patisserie...ham and cheese croissant
Snack...no money left for a snack

Lunch at CP is $31.11 after tax and tip in the non peak seasons. That leaves $18.89.

The following is $48.23

Breakfast at Main Street Bakery...Cinnamon Bun
Lunch Buffet at Crystal Palace
Dinner at Casey's Corner...any specialty hot dog meal for $8.59 pre tax
Snack at Aloha Isle...Dole Whip

The crystal palace option looks especially intriguing. I'll try to think of a few more scenarios for you to work through. I've been showing the thread to DH and he is amazed at how well you've worked the numbers! We are planning to do breakfasts in our room regardless of whether or not we have the dining plan and this has really opened our eyes to how much we could eat and not do ddp.

We always did cereal in our room as well unless we were using up extra credits.

I had toyed with the idea of doing some options of $50 a day for lunch, dinner and a snack because that's what we would actually do and it would give us a couple of extra dollars for some of the higher end meal ideas.

I also thought I'd do a couple of posts where it's an AVERAGE of $50 a day so some of the high cost buffets could be factored in.

I also have quite a lot of this in an excel worksheet so you can see the formula I use. If you're interested, PM me your email address and I'll send it to you. I use prices from allears menus so they may not be perfectly accurate but they keep things fairly well updated.

Stay tuned for those posts!

I love this thread.I currently have room only ressie for Easter week. Have been toying with OOP or DDP. This gives me hope. the trick convincing the rest of the fam to go along..... :lmao:.

Okay, as promised...here's one using $50 for the day when breakfast (cereal, pastries, etc) are consumed in the hotel room. Look, character meal buffets and STEAK!! Still managed to have TS 6 out of the 8 meals.

I try to tell people that WDW isn't just a giant money-pit as far as food and park fees, and this thread is a great way of showing exactly that:

I go 3x/year and I plan $50/day for CS days and I'm usually under budget. It CAN be done and you won't feel deprived! I usually spend only $40/day, but I don't snack and don't buy any alcohol.

Thanks for doing all of this research! We are staying off site and getting our meals OOP for our upcoming trip so knowing we can get all of these meals for under $50 is very reassuring.

You have to do a little research and planning, but it isn't difficult. Just note that for most meals, OP and others are drinking water. Adding in sodas will take your daily total up $5-$6 pp.

I'm impressed that you all do that much work to figure it all out. My budget is $51.54/day called the DDP. It is always more than we need to eat and I don't have to do math on vacation!
