In the book they sent me it's just a littl paragraph about it. I've read it over and over and I still don't understand? Does thAt mean I can't travel during the summer months?

I'm not an expert on the Rule of 4. BUT, I have an Aug UY too, and we travel in the summer- well, May. I know you can travel any time. The issue is that if you need to cancel and you are within 4 months of your UY, I think there's a problem. OK, I just confused myself! LOL- someone will be able to help us both now!

With an August use Year, you have until the end of March to bank points from your current Use Year. The "Rule of 4" means that after March 31, you cannot make a reservation for a non-DVC stay for April, May, June or July - but you can make reservations for those months as long as they are made by the end of March. The rule has nothing to do with reservations at DVC resorts - only the non-DVC options like Concierge Collection and stays at other WDW resorts using points.

The reason given for this is that DVC needs to be able to make a reservation using the points to rent for cash to "pay" for the non-DVC reservation. Before the banking deadlines were changed a few years ago, members could not reserve-and-stay during the last 2 months of the Use Year so the timeframe was doubled with the banking change.

If you cancel a reservation during those last 4 months (more than 30 days before arrival), the points are returned to your account - but cannot be banked after March 31. If cancelled 30 days or less before arrival, the points are also Holding Points where you can't make a reservation more than 60 days in advance.
