If I Don't Cancel My Dining Reservations, What Happens

Bear with me. I had an idea and wanted to see if this was feasible or even something I should do.

I have a number of dining reservations for my trip Sept 1-6, but might not be able to make some of the reservations. My first thought was just to go ahead and cancel these the evening before.

However, I've heard so many people saying that they've tried to get reservations for certain restaurants and thought that I could perhaps offer my confirmation number to some of the other DISers, but wasn't sure if I would be charged a non-cancellation fee (not sure how they would do this - charge my room? I never gave a CC #) if that person didn't show up.

Any thoughts? My reservations that I might cancel are for Tony's, Liberty Tree Tavern and 1900 Park Fare (Breakfast).

Here's a simple way to solve this...just cancel the ADRs to the places you don't want to go to. It frees up a spot for someone else and you never have to worry about a non-cancellation fee (which, by the way, would not apply to the places you mentioned).

If you don't show up for your dining reservations, they will go through the Main Dining Computer and check to see what other restaurants you have ressie's for. Then they'll go to each restaurant looking to see if you're there. If you are, they will drag you out kicking and screaming :rotfl2:

Seriously, I don't think they do anything.
I make ressies for multiple places, but when I figure out which park I'm staying in that night, I call up and cancel any ressie's I don't want that afternoon. It's only right. There have been many times when I couldn't get a ressie and I don't want to do that to anyone...

So if there's anyone out there that has a ressie for LTT for MNSSHP on Thursday, October 5 and you're not going, Let Me Know!!!!!!

I agree with mking624, that it's best to cancel your ADR's. I can't say this about Tony's & Liberty Tree Tavern, but I think now when going for ADR's at Walt Disney World Resorts, especially a Magic Kingdom Resort like the Grand Floridian for 1900 Park Fare, they are now asking for Resort ID, your confirmation & your name. So chances are your name would be on the list for the ADR at 1900 Park Fare, but not the person's name who you would give the ADR to. So to save people a lot of problems because they could happen, cancel your ADR's so this way anyone can get them 1st come 1st serve when calling 407-WDW-Dine.

Ah. Okay. I wasn't sure if there was someway to help out a fellow DISer or not, but wanted to make sure. I'll definitely be cancelling if I'm not going, but wasn't sure if there was a way to give it to another out-of-luck visitor or not. Thanks!

You can put up a post on the dining/restaurant board - many times if someone is cancelling a popular spot, they will put a post up saying "just canceled ressie for 4 at 1900 Park Fare 10/1/06" so someone that might be looking for it can call quickly and see if they can grab it. I am honestly not sure how effective it is to do that but it might help someone out if they know that within that hour, a table has been released back into the system. Esp those that are calling everyday for a table cancellation.

There is no penalty for canceling dining reservations unless it was for a spot that takes a credit card guarantee, which you would know of course. But, since many spots are not taking walk-ups, it is kind to cancel ahead of time since people keep trying back for cancellations.

=)

You know - it does work out sometimes. I had a ADR at the castle for breakfast that I was going to cancel. Posted a thread to see if anyone was looking for that time slot. Someone PM'd me, and we set up a time for me to call and her to call right behind me - and it worked. I think I was more excited than she was! :teeth:

Awesome! I guess this should have went into the dining board. I got overly excited about my idea and got ahead of myself.

Sorry Mods! I'll do better next time, I promise.

:thumbsup2 I'm so glad you posted this! I had never heard if it ever worked and I'm glad to know it does - that's great that some people are willing to try and hook up with another Diser for some of these hard to get spots.

Nobody really cares if you don't show up. Showing up with an ADR just puts your name at the front of the list for the next available table. If you don't show up, someone just gets in quicker, and if the line is clear, they'll take a walk-up.
