If I book using Disney Gift cards, and have to cancel...?

I find that using gift cards bought at Target will save me over $300 on my trip. But if I need to cancel for some reason, would I get the money returned as a Disney gift card or cash? I'm concerned about tying up that much money with no possibility of getting it back if something happens.

It will be returned to the original gift cards. There's no way to convert that money back to cash after you purchase the gift cards.

Anytime you book a trip with gift cards, you need to keep the empty cards until your trip is over. If anything needs to be canceled, the money goes to those original cards.

Thanks! That is what I was afraid of. Maybe I'll just pay the deposit and then save the remainder until closer to my trip next summer...

Be aware that if you purchase the insurance and cancel, you will lose the cost of the insurance. They will refund all but the insurance fee, even if it well outside of the 45 day window. I learned that the hard way.
