is it possible to get a room discount with free dining or are you stuck paying rack rate? I Know as a former AP holder I didn't qualify...now this year I don't have one and want to know if it's going to be really expensive.

I'm curious what folks might think of this - concierge and free dining.
My question would be
What is the value to concierge if your dining is free? I have never stayed concierge so I do not know what you are getting, I always assumed it was food and beverages in a concierge lounge.

I wonder this also. I can see doing either or but not the value in both. With the dining plan last year i could not have eaten another bite. Would i get more out of it than a few pastries in the morning and sodas here and there?
I don't see the logic behind paying rack rate for concierge but I'm over at AKL if I can get a discount.
Only advantage I can think of is that you might be able to get the concierge to make ADRs for you and they're essential during a free dining period.
The free dining promotion has always been offered at rack rate. I believe AAA members could get it with the AAA discount but only if they booked their package through AAA.
I'd only use the free dine at the value resorts, otherwise I'm a passholder and can get a deluxe usually at a better deal. (Of course, if it's a room of 2 adults and 2 juniors, that can be a different situation!)
It is definitely a better deal even paying rack rate with the free dining for us. We have 5 and stay at POR-so that means that we have 2 adults, 2 juniors, and a child or $166.95 worth of dining if I purchased the DDP for all of us each day. That pretty much covers the room.

I am pretty sure I paid Disney's rack rate for the Magical Beginnings Package with free dining last September, which was obtained via my AAA travel agent. Again, "no such thing as a free lunch" (although we got free AAA bennies like the AAA Story Time and parking pass).
