If Disney does't get rid of that darn Tommorrowland Speedway...

I totally agree on the "Cars" makeover that would breath a whole new life into the attraction. My family would love to see that happen. Maybe they can also change to a more eco-friendly car. It smells bad around there

For the life of me I can't understand why this "ride" is still active. Don't get me wrong, it was probably very cool in its heyday. But now...talk about DATED!
No offense, but the ride is not dated. It is you who are dated. Or, more accurately, the ride is not intended for your age group. Of course anyone with a driver's license is not going to be impressed by riding in a car at 5 mph on a track that constrains you with a rail. But for kids 8-14, getting to drive a go cart type of car is the bomb. Always has been and always will be. The thrill of driving when you aren't old enough to is timeless. It never gets old as long as there is a new generation of too-young-to-drive kids waiting in the wings. To that point, Dumbo is dated and uninteresting once you are past a certain age. All it does is go around in circles. No big drops. No 3-D effects. But it remains an incredibly popular ride that is a "must do".

Kids love this attraction.

...it is a favorite of almost any male not old enough to drive.

We have not "driven" on the Speedway for years, but when the kids were little it was a must-do.

These sentiments are spot on.

My DS LOVED this ride. He wanted to go on again and again and again...until we were given a car with a broken steering column. The car swerved back and forth and kept hitting the metal 'track' thing which gave us a huge jolt each time. We rode the entire ride like that (even after the CM at the halfway mark noticed that our car was clearly broken.) Holy whiplash!

I felt so badly for the folks trying to ride behind us. Luckily, the CMs gave us another car once we got to the finish line and we had another go-around.

After that, he was terrified to go on again fearing that the new car would break midway through the ride. We'll have to see if he still remembers in October. ;)

Yes, we hate them. Or I should say, my DH and I hate waiting for them, etc. But my little girl (4 and 5 on each trip), thought they were one of the best rides she's ever been on! This is, however the girl who thinks that goofy's barnstormer is way too fast and scary!!! :)

There's always huge lines for it whenever I don't go near it, not sure it will go anywhere anytime soon.

It doesn't hold much of a candle to driving on the Beltway, but the younger set apparently likes being able to drive cars.

that was the my first thought when I read the title of this thread.
for the few that think it's out of date or don't like it..there's sure a whole lot more that do like it.

My kids love to drive the cars, they don't care about the "speed"

That said, I do think retheming it to "Cars" theme would be a natural fit.

I can appreciate the kids loving it of course, but this is Magic Kingdom and Tomorrow Land...nothing magical or tomorrowish about the ride. It wouldn't be hard for the Imagineers to come up with something up to date and fun for kids...of all ages. :)

No.
That's one of the classic "Disney smells".
Like main st bakery,
The fire scene of PotC.

And the smell of tarmac of the speedway.

To a kid, be able to drive is something in the future.
It's most definately, Tomorrowish.

My kids 8, 6, 4 love the ride and it is a must do and do and do and do yet again. I have to step on the gas but they love steering the car. I'm sure at some point they won't like it, but for now it is a top 5 attraction for my kids......and we go 2-3x's a year, they just don't get sick of it.

The problem I have with it is the seats in the cars. Not a smart move to put BLACK VINYL on them and stick them outside in the Florida sun. I've gotten some awesome burns on that ride.

A Cars update (and a reupholstering) would be fantastic.

Love this ride - Love the open wheel racing and Indy 500 theme.

IMO not everything needs to be themed from an animated movie. There are so many additional ways to do imagineering.

I agree that the ride is dated.

I agree that it smells awful.

I agree that some kids love it.

I agree that the ride as it is doesn't really belong in TL.

A little while ago when DL updated their Autopia it breathed new life into the attraction. I personally would love to see WDW update this ride and make the course more "futuristic" somehow, and replace the cars with sleeker and less exhausty models.

My 3 older kids (4, 6.5, 6,5 years) LOVED this ride in July when we went. In fact, they rode it twice. I sat back with my youngest near the giftshop and shopped while Daddy and Grandpa waited in line. That line is ridiculous and that ride is not worth the wait, IMO. But, my kids adored it.

DS always wants to ride the cars (he is 5 now)... but it's impossible to steer the cars straight so all we do is bang into the center rail back and forth making for a very jerky ride. Can't they fix the steering or something???? So much wasted space...

My kids LOVE this attraction. I love that they love it. And it is the perfect transition from Fantasyland to Tomorrowland (would it help if it were called a Fantasyland attraction???, as race car driving is a fantasy for LOTS of kids).

I have a suggestion...if you don't like it, then don't go on it.

My boys LOVE this ride!!!! I would love to see them re-theme it to "Cars", that would make it more appealing:thumbsup2 Too bad by the time it would happen (if ever) my boys would more than likely have no interest in "Cars" anymore.

My DD10 and DS5 LOVE, LOVE this ride. It's always on their must-do list. And personally, I enjoy taking pictures of them having fun on it. I hate sitting in those cars and trying to get out of it is awful! But since my kids love it as much as they do, I still ride on it with them every time! And I know they'd be heartbroken if it was taken out.

Now, that said, I think my kids would love it even more if it was themed to be a Cars ride! But something tells me the lines would be even bigger than they are now if it was re-themed. :thumbsup2

Just do what I do......... totally forget it even exists! This is one of 3 attractions we have not been on in all of WDW and 90% of the time I just plain forget it's there.
