Ideas to stay sane if we all lockdown again

Beyond the places we have to go (my husband is an essential employee & has never stopped going to work & our kids are back to in-person college classes), we haven’t really come out of our self-prescribed quarantine. We do grocery pick-up & lot of online ordering from Amazon & haven’t been out to eat at a restaurant since last February. When we went on vacation in July/August, we stayed at our condo the entire time & did all of our cooking in the condo.

We tend to hibernate during cold & flu season anyway. So, we were just getting ready to come out of our cold & flu hibernation when covid hit in March.

However, that said, we’re in the south, & I would be totally surprised if things around here started locking down again - no matter what the covid numbers do. We have problems getting people to wear masks. I just don’t see businesses willingly closing again.

Honestly, you guys are probably the smart ones preparing for a possible lockdown. But I just refuse to even let my mind go there. If it means I'm caught unprepared, then so be it.
Oh I'm preparing alright. Won't be caught low on Toilet paper again! I've been stocking up for a couple months. Every time I go to the store I get a tp and paper towel pack. This way if there is a shortage, I won't have to panic buy.unnamed.jpg

I’ve been taking precautions and I’m not about to go bar hopping or anything like that. But if it’s safe enough for me to go to work then it’s safe enough for me to leave the house for other reasons too.
I do plan on being out a lot. I just won't be going into stores, I'll do online shopping and pick up groceries. I haven't eaten in restaurants this whole time but we do order takeout a lot.

I begged to work from home, but I couldn't figure out how to add the stuff to my equipment, fire it up, and package off material every hour from home :rotfl2:

No Thank You! LOL. I have passed out many times from my weekend activities (cycling) enough from overheating in the humidity up here let alone from the heat and humidity. All day at work in 115° is enough, I don't need that when I leave work as well, haha.
I'm a teacher and I absolutely HATED working from home. Hard to draw the line between work and home life. I'm currently teaching remotely but I do it from school-much, much better than the spring.

My driveway isn't very big, and now it's blacktopped, so it isn't too bad. I now see close to forecasted weather rather than looking outside and wonder how the 4 inches of snow comes almost to my knees, LOL. I just don't like having to do it to get out in the morning. I got my small light fixed so I'm not flooding everyone else's bedrooms with the flood light at 5 am at least. I leave that to the idiot at the top of the hill who's motion detector LED flood light lights up my bedroom like it's noontime with every car that goes by.
We had a neighbor whose flood light shined right into our bedroom each night. So annoying but I'm sure they were completely unaware of it.

Um, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you do have low stock on an item in that photo. I mean... empty slots in the wine rack? What are you thinking?

To me, it’s not so much a question of being safe, but more getting this stupid pandemic over and done with. If people would curtail gatherings and just wear the masks, the virus would end sooner since we wouldn’t continually being providing it a host. But that won’t happen because people won’t. Seems logical to me, but apparently a huge portion of the population don’t agree and want to pretend they can live life as normal.

My list:

First to get it out of the way, I promise not to post so as to be competitive pictures of that which I have baked, cooked, frozen ie last year's pumpkin... This Canadian (New Brunswick BORN senior :teeth: ) because it can't be my Newfoundland heritage, is so sorry!

Now, I 'hope' to Wi exercise. Try my hand at meditative pencil coloring. 20201020_173853.jpg

Otherwise continue my Kobo, Netflix, Posting here, Duo visit my two brothers and their wives with my Dh, and go to the Golden Arches for our 10am coffee.

FWIW, We receive a stand up radio comedy channel here from Hamilton, Ontario. Apparently, it's broadcasted world wide. CH 820 on the AM. It is hilarious!

100% this. But...our wish for everyone to follow the rules won't happen. Here in NJ, numbers are going up...averaging around 1,000 cases a day now, and I'm sure it will get worse, as it will in most states as it gets colder. So, it is what it is.

In some ways I look at all of this as a game of Survivor at this point. Not in the real sense so much, but making it to the point where there's a vaccine that will hopefully be trusted and taken by most Americans. We've visited outdoors only with parents, my sister's family, and some close friends. That's it. We haven't eaten at a restaurant since February (inside or outside). And while I don't think there's anything wrong with it, we haven't done take-out...not even one time. We went about 5 months without doing so and I saw a drop in our food bill...bigtime. So, I see that as my personal "game" in a weird way. I've taken us this far, and so now I"m determined to make it all the way to vaccine-time without eating out or doing any take out. While my husband's job is quite secure and he works from home normally, my business has taken quite a hit and isn't likely to return to what it was until maybe next summer at the earliest. I've used some of my extra time to pick up more volunteer hours at our local ASPCA, to grow a great veggie garden, and honestly, to become a better and more creative cook. Saving on the food bill makes me feel like I'm making a positive financial contribution to my household.

I'm a bit obsessed with the news cycle right now (politics...I'll admit it), once the election is over, I am going to start a new workout routine for the winter months to get into better shape. I'm not in bad shape, but I could be better. It's a good way to lift your mood in the darker, colder months for sure. And so I'm hoping to be in great shape when we get that vaccine, and then will gleefully plan lots and lots of travel.

One other thing that we're doing to get us through the late fall is to put up our Christmas decorations very early, probably the week of Thanksgiving. Our families have agreed that celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas indoors is too risky this year, but we're hoping for warmer days so we can sit out on our porches and celebrate a bit. I want to have a backyard fire pit gathering or two and enjoy some gluhwein. I've never made it, so if anyone has a good recipe, I'd love to have it. Way, way back in 2006, DH and I traveled to Germany, Austria and the Chech Republic and visited many Christkindlmarkts. At each destination, we purchased two of the mugs for that particular market, and hauled all 14 of those mugs back to the States. So, thought it would be fun to break them out after all of these years and enjoy a hot adult beverage outdoors.

That's all I have. Nice reading what everyone is planning to do.

We've never been doers, especially in winter. I just don't have a desire to leave my warm house, get in a cold car, drive across town, get out of the car into a cold rain and go eat or see a movie. (Pretty much reverse that for summer. Hot car, hot drive, over air conditioned buildings... no thanks.) I'm perfectly content to work my way through the backlog of stuff I want to stream, my books, Lego, puzzles, and boardgames. And I'm a good cook, so I'd rather eat my stuff than restaurant crap, anyway.

For me, lockdown has been not much different from daily life. The only thing I'll miss is being able to see my parents as readily. As long as it was nice, I could go over and we all sit outside and talk. While the weather here doesn't get bitterly cold, it's cold enough to stop that, especially for them. So that's a bummer. The rest? Introvert's paradise!

I worry about the holidays. On the news this morning they were urging people to not gather for Thanksgiving. They were saying that is exactly how this will spread, small gatherings indoors, no masks. I don't feel people will cancel gatherings for the holidays. Some will, but most won't IMO.

I had a big pile of it in March/April. I've used it down now and am taking my chances. I'm tired of looking at that pile in the corner of my kitchen.

My interior designer went with sherwin Williams shiitake on my oak kitchen cabinets. The walls in the kitchen are 50% shiitake, 50% white custom mixed paint. It is a nice, calming color. Combined with light granite and black stainless appliances, it is visually appealing.

Pictures, we need pictures!

I’m not pretending and living life as normal. But I am getting very tired of the double standard. Essentials have been going to work since Day 1. They include everything from grocery store baggers to physicians. But if those same people want to actually do something besides work then they get accused of being reckless by the people who are sitting at home telling themselves how many lives they’re saving. But their whole “stay home” plan is based on enough people going to work to support their new lifestyle.
