I got a call from a friend of a friend that is putting on a benefit for a individual that is going through some really tough medical issues. I was thrilled that they called me ~ I find it very gratifying to help where and when I can... Anyway, one of the things they will be doing that day is a "cake-walk" however, you can donate cakes, pies, cookies bags of candy etc... Now I know it's pretty basic, but do any of you have any ideas that would be a little more "WOW"??? I'd like to come up with a few really cool ideas that might get the people at the benefit excited and also fun for the kids that will be there. I know I came to the right place for help!!!! Thanks everyone!!!!!!:goodvibes

this isn't regarding a cake walk directly, but raising money: Have you tried looking into Market Day Gourmet? A lady I know had a MDG party at her home and a portion of the money went to her son's school for fundraising. They may do it for individual causes, I don't know. They have a website and the food is fantastic. Just a thought.

Thanks for the reply... I have actually had Market Day food and you are right, it's awesome. (I love the sweet onion burgers)I have a friend that travels to Cleveland and they offer it in that area. I liked it so well that I tried to find out about it in our area and unfortunately they don't offer it here. Thanks for the idea though!:)

Are you looking for other activity ideas? Or ideas strictly to do with the cake walk?

What if you baked some plain sugar cookies in different shapes (snowmen, hearts etc) have small cups of white icing and lots of toppings. Charge a few dollars for each child to decorate a cookie to eat.

We did this at DL at Christmas time. For $3 we got a large cookie, cup of icing and 3 different toppings.

What if you got items donated and stuck a voucher for the prize under the cake? That way, people are not just putting up money for a cake, but also a chance to win a prize.

How about a silent auction? I went to a benefit once that had a silent auction and not only did I have alot of fun bidding on donated items, but I came out with some fantastic things. And knowing it was for a good cause was more motivation to increase my bids. :goodvibes

If you want just cake walk ideas-we attend a school party in my Aunt's town each year. The cake walk is the favorite event by all the kids. Anything decorated loudly is first to go. You may want to "save" some to put out throughout the day.

Another thing they do is "themed" baskets. Being as it's a PTA, each classroom has a theme, and the children bring something in to be incorporated into the basket. You could do this with different families or clubs. Always a great seller, a lottery basket. They also do beach ones, art supplies, music (a cheapo CD player with a few CD's) to name a few. You could do this as part of the silent auction, but how this particular school does it is by selling tickets. You can buy say 1 for $1.00 or 15 for $10. people then put tickets into the boxes in front of what they'd like to win. That too, is a huge seller.

Good luck!
