Help!

Not too creative here and not much expeirence with sleepovers/pj parties. My dd will be 13 soon and all she wants is to have 5-6 girls over. I thought I would ask them to come over 7:30 to 8 pm. Watch a scary movie or two - order pizza, ice cream cake - I am sure they will be up half the night. Should I have them do hair/make up? - Is pick-up time of 10 am good also? Thanks for any input/ideas/suggestions.

Instead of ordering pizza, you could have the girls make a pizza (or each make their own mini-pizzas).

I would have a pickup time of 11; but then I am a the kind of person who would take my daughter's being gone on a sleepover as a chance for me to sleep in! ;)

The good news is that at 13 they really require very little activities. Pizza, cake and movies sound perfect. That just want to get together and hang out. You probably don't need the hair/makeup thing.

Yes, 10 a.m. is a perfect pick up time.

My DD has been to a few... not brave enough to have one here yet. But they have started at 7ish with pizza, cake and then they do nails etc... sometimes a craft, like taking paint pens and sign pillowcases for a keepsake.
I think 10 sounds good.

Good luck!

Now, you see, my DD and her friends would HATE that. They LOVE carryout pizza and don't like to make it. But everyone's different.

I'm planning a sleepover for my DD turning 13 on Oct. 23 .. I got some ides from the board..
We are doing a Stretch Suv Limo ride then coming back to the house for pizza , scary movies , games, pillow case signing, braclet making in the softball team colors... Who knows what else.. I'm afraid to see with 15-18 gils.. I pray that I live thru it all..

Personally I would stear away from the scary movies - and opt for kid fliskc-
I know last year (granted she was 10) DD went to a sleep over - and didn't like the scary ,movie... so she went into the other room and then the mom realized what was going on and made them all shut the movie off -
well two weeks later - same group of friends another b-day and dd was invited to the 'party' but not the sleepover - because she didn't like scary movies :( I felt so bad for her...
How about favorite cd's for some dancing around is always good - Kareoke (sp?) maybe

One suggestion, if you have cable, put a block on what they can watch. While they are older, there's still inappropriate shows on late at night. How do I know this? When my DD was 9 she came home from a sleepover where she got to see "a man on top of the lady, and sometimes the lady was on top of the man." :scared1: :scared1:

I too would stay away from the scary movies..........my DD went to one and I wasn't aware, but the mom allowed them to watch Freddie vs Jason! :earseek: Not only would of allowed my 13 yr old DD to watch an R rated movie, it scared her so bad, she left the room and had nightmares for quite awhile. There are a lot of 'girl' movies out there. In fact, I think "Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants" goes on sale this week. Makeup is also good along with manicures they can give each other.

The girls will find plenty to do. I think that the movies and pizza are fine. I wouldn't have them make their own because YOU will have to clean up the mess :rotfl: . A cardboad box and some napkins are a lot easier to clean up.

Do you have a Playstation and DDR? My DD15 and her friends love it. Karaoke is also a good bet with her crowd. As for movies, try to stick with something in the Lindsey Lohan-Reese Witherspoon genre. You know, the PG-13 chick flicks.

For snacks, stick to anything that they can grab and go with...M&Ms, chips, pretzel. Pizza is great but have it delivered so that you don't have too big of a mess to clean up. 13yo's are not incline to pick up after themselves. If your DD likes ice cream cake then have it for her. My DD likes it but I've found that many of her friends don't.

10 am pickup sounds good. Anything earlier and you might have trouble rousing them. Have a supply of donuts, juice and fresh fruit ready to put out in the morning. Some of DD's friends are hungry in the am but others are like walking zombies.

Plan on getting little to no sleep. The cable channel lock is a good idea. We also lock our liquor cabinet and hide the key. We trust our DD but you never know what someone else's kid is liable to try.

"Sisterhood of the travelling Pants" is one that also just caught my eye in the tv guide for movies coming out tomorrow. I know one of the girls wants to watch Titanic. Before showing any movies - I plan on mentioning this to the parents - nothing R rated. I have basic cable - but you had me cracking up Webmaster Regina - even though it is definitely not funny.

My dd wants ice-cream cake - but I plan on making cupcakes too and will have a few things ready for breakfast, cereal, donuts, frozen french toast/waffles, etc. I will order pizza - don't want extra cleanning up.

I did this once about 10 years ago for my son - he had 6 - 7 friends sleep over and I said never again and I did not sleep for one minute either. First time having girls over and hoping that they will be fine with cds, games, movies - I plan on being around them quiet a bit - even if I play innocent and look for something here and there to show my presence.

Thanks everyone again.

I wouldn't 'organize' anything. Mostly they will just talk on the phone, watch tv, and talk half the night. Have some scary movies, some romantic comedies, stuff like that, out where they can get to it. If you have a PS2 or xbox or camecube or something, they might play a game or two. 7-10 sounds good. if you have them stay till noon you might want to have some lunch ready for them. Pizza and ice cream is always a safe bet.

Good luck!

Oh my, is this appropriate? :guilty:

The girls will have a blast! Another idea is to stock up on those break and bake chocolate chip cookies and milk. The girls may want to pig out at 1am.

Now. I'm sure your DD is better at 13 than I was ;) ...but I had a slumber party every year for many years and we ALWAYS snuck out of the house to hang out with the boys in the neighborhood! (sorry mom!!) Nothing fishy happened, just hanging out and flirting. Still...in this day and age, you can't be too careful.
