In May of 2007 we went to WDW. We took our 2 boys who are on the autism spectrum. For some reason still not known to us, we were given the day of our lives at the MK. We were chosen as the family of the day, opened the park, our boys got to meet Captn Jack, my husband was chosen as the Veteran of the Day and was part of the lowering of the United States Flag detail and recession and so much more, it would take me forever to list. It was truly the best day our family has ever had, and seeing our children so excited and talking to us (our oldest especially does not communicate that much but he did that day) was a such a gift. Words cannot express how much that day meant to us and even more, how it gave our children a day where they were the focus, not their autism.
We have kept in touch with the wonderful Cast Member who made all of it possible and we are headed back to WDW for a Grand Gathering in September. I would like to really do something special for him to commerate that day and what it meant for us. Does anyone have any ideas as to something special we can make or have made. I would especially like to somehow involve the boys and the HUGE impact that day had on their lives (they still talk about it).
Thank you so much for any ideas,
