I'm having all 4 wisdom teeth removed shortly and I've read a few articles on what to expect during recovery from the surgery. I'm just wondering if there are any good options for foods I'll be able to eat outside of what I've seen so far.

So far, I've read:
cold water
pudding
ice cream (with no chunks of anything in it)
yogurt
cold apple sauce
soup (after 24 hours)

Any other ideas? :confused3

I lived on KFC mashed potatoes and gravy and milkshakes. Not the healthiest thing out there but I could barely open my mouth since some of mine had to be cut out. And it was only for a week or so (that I don't remember well since they had me on codeine).

I had chicken noodle soup the night of...and was eating at Red Lobster the next day..lobster, shrimp, those are soft foods!!

Seriously, I had no complications at all!

No dairy! It's makes you puke from the anesthesia!

I lived on wendy's bake potato with cheese and bacon and chili mac in a can . both soft and tasted good.

ice cream, wine, more ice cream and more wine!!

no really, soup, maybe some soft noodles, mac and cheese, etc, mashed potatoes, pudding

No food suggestions but when my DDs had theirs out, they were told no straws and they liked to use frozen peas for ice packs - the bags form to your face better. Have 4 bags on hand so you can use 2 at a time. Then rotate and refreeze them.

I lived on mashed potatoes and applesauce. I could also manage a cheese quesadilla. The instruction sheet also recommended drinking Ensure.

I had pastina for quite a few evening meals and oatmeal/cream of wheat for mornings. No chewing required. And of course the standard jello/pudding and ice cream. Good luck.:thumbsup2

Thanks so much for all of the ideas so far!!! I'm taking lots of notes. :)

I do have one question - what is pastina?

My DD was 7 when she had hers removed. The only thing I could get her to eat was mashed potatoes and gravy.

Good advice....also try not to lay down flat after surgery....recliner with your head elevated.

Get you some Starbucks, girl!!!!!!!:lmao:

How you doin?

Long time no chat.

Hope you fare well during surgery.

I am kind of in the minority, but-----

I was eating pan pizza from pizza hut for dinner the same night I had mine removed.

:scared1:

Good Luck!
Jo

PS- I got me a NCBF!!!!!!!!!!!! 'Bout time!

Thanks for the link! Seems like there's a lot of wisdom tooth extraction stuff going around!

Hey, Jo! No freakin way am I eating pizza afterwards. :lmao: Knowing me, I'll wait until I'm absolutely sure it's safe to eat solid food again before I do. DH swears I'll be fine - I'm actually going to the same surgeon that did his wisdom teeth around 4 years ago. I'm still freaking out a little, though. It needs to be done fast so I don't brood about it forever.

Glad to see you got a NCBF. :) Did the OCBF die of natural causes or was it helped along a bit? ;)

I lived on scrambled eggs with cheese (mmmm) and beefaroni (canned pasta that doesn't really require much chewing; it's been a comfort food for me since I was a kid!).

When I had mine out, I had a terrible time cleaning back there. When I mentioned that on my follow-up visit, they gave me a curved little syringe that I could fill with water and squirt back there. Maybe ask for one? (A friend of mine just got hers removed and she got one without asking so who knows?)

GL!!

I had mine out last Thursday... plus three more.

So far, this is the best diet I've ever been on :p It feels very uncomfortable to eat and I'm so worried that I'm going to get food particles stuck and get infected. Plus, I can't open my mouth very wide, which is also really frustrating.

I've barely eaten anything in the last week... today I ate a bean burrito. It took me an hour to eat it.

What I have been eating:
-creamy or brothy soups
-yogurt
-Luigi's frozen ice
-Strawberry Quik

Really healthy

BUT... that is so much better than what I expected. I wasn't in any pain at all, even with seven teeth removed. I was sore... but no pain.

Good luck!!!

Glad to hear you didn't have any pain!

I know I could stand to lose a few pounds, so I'm trying to focus on that part. :rotfl:
