When I go to Dineyland in August I am meeting up with some America Dis friends who I have been chatting to for many years before they go on the Disney Magic back through the Panama Canal. I would like to give them a gift when we finally meet. They are 2 couples, one with young children (1 and 4.) So what gifts do you think I should take them. Obviously they have to be quite small as I have to get the gifts to America and they then have to take them on the cruise.
I'm stuck for ideas, so all help would be greatful. I was thinking maybe something typically English??

Hi Danauk,

How thoughtful of you to begin with! Whatever you buy them I am sure will be the right thing and will be well received and appreciated. That being said, let me share with you some of the delightful items sent to me by my British friends.

I was ready to type, "one of my favorite things is ..." but honestly, I love all of these things -- so here goes --(in no particular order - LOL):

1. Tea towels (kitchen towels from different places): I have even pressed and starched my favorite one and it is hanging in my kitchen looking very pretty :)

2. Christmas placemats/napkins -- they are incredibly gorgeous and we don't have things like that in the US - the sizes are so different that they are so unique. You probably take them for granted, but they're real conversation starters here :)

3. Books - might be heavy, but I loved them!

4. Teddy bear with a soccer shirt from one of the British teams.

5. Key chains (my Scottish cousin gave me one with heather in it - gorgeous)

6. Depending on how well you know them and their sense of humor, my dear friend Julie Armstrong took a chance and sent me Vicar of Dibley DVDs! I'm hooked - and they've never been on BBCA to the best of my knowledge, so this was just wonderful.

7. Any British t shirt - especially for the kids :)

8. British pins from the Disney Store that we don't have here.

I guess the common theme is -- of course -- that they are all British items! So you can see where your initial idea of "typically British" is spot on!

Isn't it wonderful making such great friends over the Dis boards and then meeting them???

Have a great time in DL :)

Hi Karen

I'm doing a Fish Extender exchange on our upcoming cruise (where we leave gifts in holders that are attached to the fish outside our staterooms) and I visited our local Tourist Information and I have bought bookmarks, teddies with the Union Flag on, pens, postcards, postbox/bus/taxi keyrings, pins and anything that had the St. George or Union Flag on

I then bought some cute Mickey Mouse party bags to put the stuff in. I had to keep the gifts small as I've got about 30 people taking part in our exchange :)

I hope that helps

Great ideas so far guys, thanks.

Any more suggestions?

I met up with a load of DISers last year and I gave them various English sweets, a chocolate orange, smarties, Twirls, werthers originals etc which they all loved. They were hard to keep cool though!

I like Mandy's ideas and would never have thought of the Tourist information for gifts!

Luckily we've decided no presents for the meet this year as there are 54 of us :rotfl:

Anytime we have met up with American Disers we have given them things local to our area. The Americans seem to love all things Scottish so we've given tartan things, magnets with scenic locations, postcards and sweeties.

When we met up with some other Disers from the USA, I put together a gift bag with some cadbury's chocolate, local postcards and souveniers (Robin Hood things) and some leaflets. xx
