My best friend and I are excited to finally be spending a birthday together.

:bday:

You see, we've been best friends since age 4 when my Mom met her Mom at the grocery store before we both started kindergarten. It's a cute story and now a lifelong friendship.

Growing up, we always made birthdays really special for each other (big surprise birthday parties, great presents, etc.). Well, because she has lived all over the world and I've lived in MN and WI all of our adult lives, we have not spent an actual birthday of mine or hers together since we were 18 ... she is now turning 38 ... so it's been 20 years!!

Well, we thought it was about time to be together on one of our birthdays and since we are both HUGE Disney fanactics, we thought what better place than WDW.

So, May 4-7 we will be together in the happiest place on earth. Her actual b-day is May 5.

I'm looking for a bunch of things to surprise her and make her birthday super magical. I know about the birthday buttons, but that's about as far as my creativity goes.

I also asked her what her favorite all time Disney restaurant is for a birthday meal and she picked 50's PTC, so we're doing lunch there. I'm open to ideas for breakfast (we're staying at POP) and an awesome b-day dinner.

So ... I'm looking to all of you ... the magic experts to advise me on fun things to do (cheap and expensive both) to make her special day and our special trip as great as humanly possible.

Please share ideas you may have. Thanks!!!

Also, one easy question to start - how can I get a birthday cake at Disney?

As far as cakes go...you can order special cakes but you have to do it through the individual restuarant. Disney Dining should be able to give you some guidance there.
For some fun birthday ideas....how about a nice spa experience for the two of you at the GF?
Depending on what you are looking for in a nice birthday dinner..you could try the California Grill, or Artist Point.

You might want to consider a character breakfast. Even if it's just "grown ups" I think it is a special way to spend a day. I am partial to 1900 Park Fare. They give the girls a birthday tiara (I've see grown up girls get them too!)

You can get cakes at most of the restaurants. I believe they all have a 6" cake that you can request upon arrival to check in for your meal, they will personalize it, and then there are speciality cakes that need to be order 24-48 hours in advance, I am only familiar with these in the resort restaurants, but I am sure other folks would know about the theme park restaurants. Each bakery has it's own number, and there is a sticky thread on the Restaurant Board with a list...... if I can locate it I will edit and add. There is another thread with some of the different cakes that people have ordered!

Feralpeg who posts frequently makes up gift baskets and delivers to resorts, I am not sure if I can post the link or not..... you might want to PM her.

There are also Cookie By Design franchises near WDW that make "bouquets" of Disney themed cookies that are very pretty and very special. I had ordered two when my DD had her birthday at 1900 Park Fare for the "goodie bags for her and the friend that joined us.)

There is a picture of our cake from 1900 Park Fare and the cookies on my Photobucket site - http://photobucket.com/albums/e291/makasper/Taras%209th%20Birthday/?start=16 pages 2 and 3.

I am sure there are a hundred other ideas, and more -I always look at birthdays from a kids perspective I guess!

Jellyrolls on the Boardwalk seems to be a great place for nighttime entertainment, and you are close to EPCOT for the fireworks....

Maybe some spa time at the Grand Floridian? I have never looked into that....

Well, that's all I can think of for now.... I am sure you will get lots of suggestions.

Have a great time! It's great when we can celebrate our life long friendships!

makinorlando, that cake from 1900 Park Fare looks both gorgeous and delicious! party:

Is that one that you had to call in advance and prearrange? Do you remember approximately how much it cost?

Thanks for the great responses so far. Any more fantastic ideas?
