I am an eary planner and I am looking for birthday treat ideas for to take for my daughters day care when she turns one. Her birthday isn't until Oct 30, so I have plenty of time. :) The room she is in at day care is all children under 2.

I would ask the staff what they would like you to bring. They know what the kids can eat, if there are any allergies and what the kids enjoy the most. I know when I taught Nursery School many years ago, parents always wanted to bring in cupcakes. They were the very worst thing you could bring. The kids always had trouble eating them and would be wearing more of the cupcake than eating them.

At that age I'd keep it really simple. I bet they'd each love a box of Barnum animal crackers. They're just the right size for tiny hands and don't have too much sugar. The teachers will love them because they're not too messy. Besides a treat I always liked to send in a new toy/book/game for the classroom rather than do goody bags.

If you do decide to do cupcakes try baking them in ice cream cones (the cup kind). It's really easy and fun. The direction s/b on the cone box.

Small children cannot handle cupcakes well. My dds teacher at that age suggested gingerbread men cookies or colorful sugar cookies. We did both one each at age 1 and the other at 2, both were a big hit! I did small favor bags also no candy but did but those individual bags of animal crackers for them to take home. I put an age appropiate favor in there too. I like the idea for a classroom gift too. No balloons for smaller kids either unless they are mylar, latex balloons are a choking hazard.

we took cupcakes but I did ask before I brought them in. I also took the teachers a cake and a thank you card for caring for DD for the first year of her life...

My dd's birthday is Halloween, so I ordered soft trick or treat bags from Oriental Trading and put a few cookies and Halloween themed toys that were age appropriate...rattles, etc....

other thngs that were sent home with DD - were rubber ducks, stuffed toys, etc.

Someone I know made cupcakes and used M&M's as eyes and nose and Oreo cookies as Mickey ears they looked so cute. I'm doing a Mickey theme for dd's birthday this year since she loves Mickey. For Minnie this same person used twisted licorice as bows.

They looked very cute and easy to make. :flower:
