I am planning my DD's birthday party and she wanted a horse theme. I wanted to make a pony craft, any ideas. There will be two boys there as well. We are getting new carpeting two weeks prior to the party, so I wanted to avoid paint, but will do it if need be. I am kind of at a loss, everything I find on the internet seems so complicated for 6 year olds! I was going to purchase pony fuzzy posters from a website, but I waited and now they are sold out!! Thanks for any suggestions!

What about making pony masks..

Take paper plates and glue popcicle sticks on the bottom

Draw on faces and use paper circles, cups, dry macaroni or anything for ears, nose, hair ext.

I don't have anyother ideas for you. I just wanted to let you know that they sell those fuzzy posters at Kmart, many craft supply stores, and probably Walmart and Target.

Thanks Simba928-

I guess I should say that these were Horse fuzzy posters and were small and only $2.00 a piece. I have checked WalMart, Target, etc., but no success. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Masks would be cute, I was thinking of something along that line, but make it into a mane somehow, if only I could figure out the somehow!!

You could have felt pony puppets assembled & ready to decorate. We just gave my niece a felt finger puppet horse kit. All the kids in our family seem to like the Lauri brand lace-a sets.

DD had a horse theme party last year at our local harness racing museum. They supplied the crafts/games. They had horses that were printed out on paper. I'm sure you could find a picture, like the coloring pages, and print it out from the internet. They had small squares of tissue paper in every color and some glue out for the kids. They were able to bunch up the tissue paper to make a colorful horses. They were so cute and the kids had a blast doing it. They also played a horse shoe toss game. I also wated to let you know that oriental trading company has a paint a horse shoe craft, and birthday express has really nice horse theme party goods we used for DD.

Here's a link to the place where DD had her party. It explains all the crafts they do. It could help give you some ideas.
Good luck!

How about a stick horse rodeo? its cheap, easy and fun!

Items needed
Picture of horse head facing two different directions
Markers or crayons
Scissors
Tape
Glue
Dowel that is appropriate for child’s height
Yarn

Have children color both pictures of the horses head. Point out that they can make their horse look realistic or pretend (depending on what you want them to do). Cut both pictures out when they are done. Tape the two pictures together, making sure to leave enough room in the bottom to insert the dowel. Put some glue on the last few inches of the dowel and insert it inside of the opening that was left. Arrange the yarn in a manner that looks like a halter/bridle with reins for the child to hold on to. (You may want to glue a popsicle stick into the horse’s nose when making this with children so that they can pull on the “reins” without ripping the paper as easily.)

then have the kids do a stick pony rodeo. you can set up cones or coffee cans and have the kids ride there stick ponies in the patterns ( weaving, clover leafs, ect ) and time them. whoever has the shortest times wins.

Thanks everybody for the ideas! That museum sounds great! I wish we had that around here, but it sure is nice they put their ideas on their website! I am going to use some of them!!
