Hi all! We (me, DH, DS) will be travelling to Disney in December and our last day there is my DS 3rd Birthday! :woohoo: Any low-key, yet special, ideas to celebrate.

We are not big birthday party people. Just us at home with a small family celebration, dinner, cake or ice cream, and presents with some streamers and balloons. But I would like to do something "special" and out of the ordinary for DS, but not too grandeous.

I read about the cakes, but DS and DH don't particularly like cake, so I'm not going to order one of those, would just be a waste. Although, if any of the bakeries have individual cupcakes maybe. Anyone know?

I will probably get him a birthday button, but outside of that  .

Background: We were at Disneyworld in May, so DS "knows" it. DH & I have been many times. Plus, I was a college program CM in '97 so know my way around. Just having a tough time thinking what would be the extra touch for a 3rd Birthday.

We also celebrated DS4 b-day last year. If you have any ADR's make sure to mention it on the reservation. At the places that we had an ADR they would bring him a cupcake with a candle and sing Happy Birthday to him. If you have any ADR's make sure to mention it on the reservation.

I also agree with the idea of a Character Meal. We did Crystal Palace last year for my daughter's 2nd B-day and will be doing Chef Mickey's this year for her 3rd B-day. Have the CM note the birthday on your ADR and remind the hostess/waitress when you get there. Crystal Palace gave me daughter a cupcake, card signed by the characters as well as decorated the table with confetti, ribbons, etc. They don't acknowledge individual B-days, but have a parade and/or sing to all celebrating special occassions.

I also made my daughter a t-shirt similar to a sports jersey. On the back had a large 2 with her nickname across the shoulder. Then on the front was a picture of Pooh cooking and it said something like Pooh is making me a special Birthday Breakfast.

Well I am not sure I would consider it "low key", but we just did a B-Day celebration at Chef Mickey's for my 3yo DD. She LOVED it! She was so excited to see the characters, that she did not even eat! We bought an extra birthday cake, but I would not do it again...they serve a ton of desserts and will bring out a cupcake for those celebrating birthdays. We got to see Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto and they came around to the table 3 times while we were at the table.

Another idea might be to do the free camp fire sing along with Chip and Dale at Fort Wilderness campgrounds. They have cheap pony rides, you can roast marsh mellows over the fore and the watch a movie on the big screen.

Thanks for the responses.

We'll be going to a restaurant (or 2) that day and will have them note DS's B-Day. Not sure where we'll eat yet. We will have been to the Crystal Palace earlier in the week, so a "Character Meal" won't be something "new". (We like table service so most of our meals during our trip will be at those, my son would probably actually prefer a picnic somewhere. Hum, idea!!! Is there a "plot of grass" we could go and sit on with to-go food from somewhere???)

I guess I trying to find something more along the lines of the pony rides, though we did this along with the campfire in May. So any other ideas??? I'm really at a loss.

Ideally, though I know this will never happen, but I can dream :lovestruc :
DS gets on a Pirate Ship at Peter Pan's Flight and Peter Pan is waiting there for him and "Off They GO!!!"
Oh why, oh why did they discountinue Magical Beginnings :sad2:

(DS currently wants to watch Peter Pan everyday...)

Maybe Peter Pan could "visit" him in the hotel room while he's sleeping and leave a present for him? And maybe a signed card? Perhaps the gift could be something like a Peter Pan plush or sword or something?

DS will also be celebrating his 3rd birthday in WDW in December... When are you going to be there? We'll be there from Dec 9th to the 21st and DS's 3rd birthday is Dec 20th.

Whatever you decide to do, your DS will have a blast 'cuz how can you NOT when you're in Disney World?!?!?

I love this surprise idea! Have a gift from his favorite character "arrive" while he is sleeping! If you have a balcony- you could even stage it out there and then he can "find" it in the morning! How cool would that be? "Oh my goodness! Stitch must have climbed up and left you a birthday gift on the balcony!" I think it would be a magical moment!
