Ideas - 40th Birthday weekend bash @ Disneyland for 32-40. Pimp my party out!

Try contacting D23 to see if they have a ballpark idea on dates. Otherwise, I know that I've bought really cute gingerbread kits from Trader Joe's, World Market, and Amazon. Also, if you have a friend who can bake, there are cute pans that have all the pieces together in one sheet. World Market used to sell one and also Williams-Sonoma. Here's a tip: mix the powder frosting packet from the kits with a can of ready made white frosting (like Betty Crocker). You'll end up with a frosting cement that holds like nobody's business! We did this in high humidity and the houses held up for a week. :)

ETA: Disposable frosting bags can be made from Zip-loc bags. Makes clean up, especially in a hotel room, so much easier.

By the way, not sure if you knew you could order a Disney cake to be delivered to BB or S55 when you dine there. There is a Disney cake thread ongoing in this forum so that you could see some photos of recent cakes. The cake will be delivered to your restaurant and will be brought out to your table when you're ready.

OMG Some of these cakes are too cute to pass up - ^^^ perfect for 40th from the cake thread you pointed out. NO question of whether we will have a cake... it's where, and how that I'm trying to refine. I can't confirm seating at restaurants until August, when those 60-day online reservation windows open. May even need to try Anaheim Gardenwalk. I can't argue with some of their cakes, either.

The Family-Disney event aspect of Disney is something that's completely new to me, forcing me to look at things I had NO idea were even available... I didn't even know about this hotel until I spent about a year looking around. This is incredibly fun.

Tentative Plan
The plan right now is that Holiday Inn will do the cake and provide staff/event support. They can provide help in the form of catering, staffing, equipment, cleanup (Banquet Services & Menu). We wouldn't have that level of customization at a restaurant - and it's looking like we may have difficulty securing dinner reservations.

This is an example of a Holiday Inn Disney Wedding event with cake. Instead, we'll have a much smaller room like lower right. Perfectly fine and we can dress it up. We'll need to do the show & cake here around lunchtime if I cannot secure restaurant dinner reservations. ART shuttle is right outside, taking us straight to MHP afterwards. At MHP, we STILL have open options for dinner.. Burgers & Fries from Tomorrowland, Hot soup from New Orleans square -- quintessential Disney street-dining. I always loved this, I think we'd be fine if that's what we have to do.

Be flexible and organized with your MHP dining plans. Not all places will be open and those that are can get very crowded. You don't want to miss valuable party time by searching for a place to eat or by standing in line at the register. I believe TS places take their last reservations around 3pm on party nights to insure that all guests are done and out of the restaurant by the time the parks close.
