Yikes! We have had a long weekend planned at VIlla Roma in Callicoon Ny for awhile. (6/9-6/12) Just called to check on the reservation and was told they had a fire and lost almost all of the mail bldg including kitchen and dining room. Villa Roma is an all-inclusive type resort w/ entertainment etc. We had planned to take my in-laws as a thanks for all the help they give us throughout the year. It doesn't sound like they'll be back on their feet by June.
Can anyone give me any other ideas for a family oriented resort in the northeast?
I just called the Von TRapp Family Lodge in Stowe VT and they are booked for that weekend. I am so disappointed. My in-laws never travel and were really looking forward to this.

Thanks for any ideas!

All inclusives...that we have been to and love
Mohonk Mountain house(in New Paltz NY- really a beautiful setting) but $$$$
Woodloch Pines- on a lake and actually pretty nice- indoor pool, game rooms, good food. But this place books up too pretty early there are lifers that go here. (year after year after year)
The Balsams in New Hampshire
The Chatham Bars Inn (in MA on the Cape) $$$ but right on the beach and they have lovely dinners.
Um I'll try to think of some more
Mohonk is probably your best bet it is really a gorgeous setting - check out their website! All these place have web sites. I don't think I am allowed to post them.

Have you thought about a dude ranch or something. I know that both the Rocking Horse Ranch and the PineGrove Dude Ranch are all-inclusive. I have been to both. They both have an indoor pool and they are in New York

In our newspaper, they recently featured, SixFlags Great Escape Lodge and Indoor Water Park in Lake George, NY. It looked very family friendly and fun and it is new. We also love Alexandria Bay in the Thousand Islands, NY. There are lots of different resorts and a quick search online would probably turn up a family friendly one. Hope this info helps. Have fun :)

Real bummer about Villa Roma. My parents and I both own timeshare there and we were planning on visiting this summer - don't really know if that's a possibility now. If most of the main building is gone, it will take them quite a while to get back up to speed and service. Since you are in CT, ever think of Mystic? Or maybe taking the Ferry over to Long Island and driving out to Montauk (little haul, but with the beach it may be worth it).

if your into B&B's, send me an email. i live in the kingston/stone ridge area and know of lots of places you could stay.

We were there for a weekend last October...it was gorgeous but yes, very pricey. You get your meals included in the main dining room but alcohol is not included and everything has a gratuity tax...even the gift shop! We paid $250.00 per person per night so the weekend was $1000 right off the bat. To boot, most dinners were not buffet and the portions were a little skimpy.

They do have a wonderful spa though with an outside mineral whirlpool which only cost us $20 each to enjoy any time of the day, all day.

Edited to add: The rooms are very spare. We had a lovely wood burning fireplace and a balcony but there was no TV. You can rent one for an extra charge.

pine grove dude ranch is prob the best way to go for a family. mohonk is more geared towards couples.

JoBeeC, then I must have been there for the wrong weekend, lol! There were tons of kids because they have planned activities for them including a kid's nature workshop of some sort. There is also an arcade room that is open 24 hours.

I played a game of pool in the billiards room with 3 kids and they beat my butt!

Wildflower Inn in Lyndonville (I think) Vermont seems great! A friend stayed there with older kids but they have family activities all the way down to infant care and nature walks for toddlers. I'd love to get there someday!

Yes I guess me too! With the Labyrinth, the lake, boats, fishing, horseback riding, movie nights, hiking trails ect ect... It is a total family place! The rooms being sparse I think is part of their total relaxation theme.*and that it is cheaper for them lol. We saw plenty of kids(it is where my kids learned to fish) And lots of extended families- big rocking chairs on the huge deck filled with seniors! We would go more often but it just is a huge budget breaker!

Java, I'm glad to hear this. I thought I got caught in some type of Kiddie Adventure Weekend or something, lol!

Don't you just love that labyrinth?

lol at the Labyrinth. The last time we were there I was afraid my butt wouldn't fit through that narrow part you have to climb up through. :rotfl2: But thankfully I fit. And I love that big dining room it has that old vacation feel. "your table" love it

Yeah, thank god I wasn't claustrophobic!

I thought it was kind of a cross between The Shining and Dirty Dancing myself. After that long trek up the mountain (and it was dark), I finally pulled up, got out, looked at the valet guy and said to Brad "well, at least he doesn't look like Jack Nicholson!".

But I swear, those old hallways and carpets really did look like the halls in The Shining!

Thanks for all the ideas everyone. I haven't had much luck yet. Mohonk only had a few rooms left that would end up being almost $1000/night :confused3 . Too steep for us. Woodloch was a little less expensive, but only had homes at the golf course which is a 5 min drive from the main property. Not too sure about that. Pine Grove Dude ranch sounds fun, but not the kind of place for my 75 yr old inlaws!! Maybe another time.
We may just have to change the trip to the Fall.

I believe there is a place in Lenox, MA that is all-inclusive. Let me do a quick search and see if I can find it. I personally have never been there, but I'm sure someone from the DIS has been.

I was shocked to see what happened and Villa Roma! My entire family on my dad's side have timeshares up there, and we go all the time. It's a fun resort. I hope everything is up and running soon.

When it comes to all-inclusive resorts, you can't go wrong with the Mohonk Mountain House, as others have said. It's gorgeous!!!

If you plan on staying anywhere else, just make sure to read the reviews on TripAdvisor.com. A lot of the resorts are nice, but a lot of them are also very run down.

We spent March 17th weekend there and it was very nice. The room we had slept 10 (could have slept 12..but would be crowded) and was just under $1000 for the weekend. No food was included, just the room and water park. If we did it again, we would all get different rooms. As much as we love each other, there just isn't enough seating area for that may people.

We have also gone to Rydin Hi Dude Ranch just past Lake George. It is also expensive, and rustic, but we always have a great time. We go in the winter since they have a little ski area, but we have visited in the warmer weather. I have a problem with my allergies getting past the smell of hay and horses though in the warmer weather.
