Hi, we are from the UK and have the dining plan and intend to have an alcohlic drink with our meal . I really don't want to be carrying our passports about in case we loose them, can we use our driving licences which have a photo and date of birth on them as proof of age?
:thanks: cal

@CAL2 - FYI, I moved your post to the Restaurants board. The fine folks here should be able to help. :-)

I don’t see why not. Maybe you could take a picture of your passport with your phone and show that too, explaining that you don’t want to carry it for fear of losing it.

Granted not everything on Disney's own site is accurate...

Any Guest who wishes to purchase an alcoholic beverage at any site in the state of Florida—including Walt Disney World Resort and Disney’s Vero Beach Resort—must present one of the following valid forms of identification:

  • U.S. state driver’s license (includes U.S. territories*)
  • U.S. state ID (includes U.S. territories*)
  • U.S. military ID
  • Original passport
  • Copy of passport (either on paper or captured on a mobile device), along with a government-issued photo ID** that can verify the person and birth date shown on the copy
  • NEXUS card issued by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (Canadian Guests only)
Please note: All Guests visiting from outside of the United States are required to present both a valid passport as well as another form of government-issued photo ID from their country of origin.

I do know from my own experiences with a temporary driver's license, they're generally not considered valid proof of ID in any state but my home state for the purchase of alcohol so I have to bring my passport with me during that period of time.

I would double check with the concierge at your hotel or call Disney Dining to verify what you can use.

Thank you for the replies, will take copy of passport and our driving licence I think I will be fine as I'm old lol but my daughter is just 22 .

We have had many reports of being denied alcohol if the right id was not present. Epcot seems to be extremely tight on this.

Doesn't matter if you are 21 or 51, plan on showing the proper id. Foreign driver license is not sufficient on its own

Thanks, I hope a photocopy of my passport is accptable as there is no way I am carrying my passport about in the parks. .

Would a photocopy of ID work in the UK?

In the US if the server asks for ID and the person doesn't have it, they can’t serve alcohol. Even if the person is 100. If you’re asked for ID and the server doesn’t want to risk their job with a photocopy, you won’t be served.

Would a photocopy of in combination with Canadian driver's license many times, . They have signs up in food service establishments that state the photocopy is acceptable, with other ID is accepted at Vero and WDW. Disney doesn't want guests carrying original passports around the parks, we were told.

Disney website says this:

https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/en_GB/faq/international-travel/required-id-for-alcohol/

  • "U.S. state driver’s license (includes U.S. territories*)
  • U.S. state ID (includes U.S. territories*)
  • U.S. military ID
  • Original passport
  • Copy of passport (either on paper or captured on a mobile device), along with a government-issued photo ID** that can verify the person and birth date shown on the copy

The questions for me are:
* whether they will actually accept a copy of passport along with another form of ID
* what other forms of ID are acceptable - e.g. if you do not drive or have provisional ... e.g. my father who is retired has never driven - would he actually need a 2nd ID and what would they accept

Dh and his sister ordered an alcoholic beverage anywhere they were able on the dining plan and were never asked for an Id. Is that because we used magic bands? I guess I never thought about it when we were there but none of us had ids on us so it’s a good thing they didn’t ask.

They either look really old or got lucky. The magic band doesn’t help with ID. It’s super simple to put on someone else’s band.

1. Yes.
2. A government-issued photo ID.

He may or may not need ID at all - it's up to the discretion of the server. If the server does ask for ID, he will be expected to provide it. And he should be prepared to provide what the law requires.

I didn’t think the magic band would do anything but that’s so weird. We didn’t even think about it and never had problems. Dh is only 24 and his sister is 26 so neither of them are very old.
