We are going to WDW in less than 2 weeks and I am looking for some sort of ID to put on my 2 year old DD. She is not a runner but you never know. There will be times when it is just me and her (DH is attending a conference) and there will be times where it will be 3 adults to 1 toddler. Her shoes are crocs so I don't think the who's shoes ID will work, I also don't think she would consistently keep on a bracelet, m-a-y-b-e a necklace, but that is a big maybe, generally speaking she has to be able to put on/take off everything herself.
Any other ideas?? Oh and no belt loops on her shorts either.

We did the engraved dog tags. If you can take her to where the machine is and let her pick out the style (they have lots of cute styles, we got a red heart) and watch it be engraved, maybe she'll like it enough to keep it on.

Maybe I read this on here; I can't remember, but some parents had a strip of masking tape, wrote info on it and taped it to the side seam of the child's shirt. Just a thought!:)

I bought a Road ID (roadid.com - I wear one when I run and I knew they were comfy and durable). When he was younger, I put it around his ankle. Now (he's almost 5), he happily wears it around his wrist or occasionally loops it through his belt loops if he's wearing pants with loops.

I had a cheaper ID bracelet marketed for kids originally and it was uncomfortable and scratchy.

ETA: You can see it on his wrist in my siggy pic. =)

Write your cell phone number on your child's skin using a traditional BIC ball point pen. It stays on really well, even with sunscreen.

I got the dor tags from Wal-mart...they have one with 101 Dalmations on a dogbone. I put names and our cell numbers on them.

I got a button from guest relations and used a sharpie to write my cell phone on the back. It worked well, my daughter wore it every day!

Yup, I reccomend the tatoos. Sometimes sharpie has a tendancy to stain the skin. :headache:

We got this for DS5, and my DH's little sisters (14 & 11). http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3755588&CatId=904
They come in red, also. We plan to put all emergency contact info on each, as well as our "secret" word, with instructions that the only people who can claim the kids, once found, and this is plugged into a computer is either DS or myself, who have the same info on our own USB drives. And they are waterproof, so they are set for the pool and waterparks also.

I printed out labels on florescent green mailing labels (Avery brand) and stuck them on the back of DS2's shirt that said:

My name is XXX
My parents are XXX and XXX
If I am not with them, please call (I put our cell phone nos.)
We are staying at the Wilderness Lodge

He never knew they were there, but an adult would not have missed it if he did get lost. Several cast members said it was a good idea. I printed up twice as many as I thought we needed plus brought along some blank ones in case we needed more I could just write in the info.

One warning on the florescent labels--they have to be printed on a laser printer, not an inkjet.

On our last visit, I went to the craft store and bought a little jewelry kit that had letter and number beads in it. I sat down with both of my kids and we made id bracelets for my DS4 and necklaces for my DD2. Because they got to help pick out the letters/numbers, and got to help make it, my DD was perfectly happy to wear it.

I made extras to carry with us just in case either of my kids ditched theirs during the day, but I never had to use them. The bracelets in particular were great in the pool. Everything was waterproof, too.

We actually got lots of compliments on them while we were there.

You might be able to call your local hospital and ask for one of their ID bands. Some are actually water proof. Before you attach it fill in the info and and if there is room have your DD personalize it with a small sticker or just color. Put the band on either the ankle or the wrist.

Scouthawk, I love the USB idea. That is a new one I'd never seen before. How does your child "carry" it?

We just bought those Safety Tattoos for our trip next week and I love them. My kids were so eager to try them out and they last well, even in water.

I print out nametags - with any info I want to provide, including cell phone number and resort where we're staying. I put a Disney sticker in the corner to make it cute. Then I laminate them, round off the corners (they can be sharp) and stick some holes in the top and stick a safety pin through onto their clothes - usually down near the bottom of the shirt instead of up where they notice it a lot.

DD was about 2 the first time...she resisted putting it on at first, but we said that 'the rule' is that all kids need to have one on to go into the parks - and she agreed after a few minutes. Now, they're so used to them that they remind me that we have to put them on.

BTW - all the 'sticker' ideas - masking tape or stickers or whatever, my kids go through all the water spray fountains and no way would these stay on their clothes for a whole day. Just a thought...

We use permanent marker on their arm - just cell phone number. I thought it was awful at first, but it works. It doesn't fall off or get lost.
Don't put child's name on anything. It allows a person to be familiar with your child - giving them a false sense of security.

I think those could be good in certain circumstances. But if I happen to get seperated from one of my DD's I want to find them as soon as possible. Anyone can look at a bracelet or tattoo and call my cell phone immediately and say we have your DD here. But with a USB drive someone has to have a computer or what ever to access it. I wouldn't have even known what it was if I hadn't seen this post. So while I think those have benefits for holding lots of info emergency info they might not be the quickest way to get reunited with lost kids.

I think we are going to do the tattoos. I like the idea of the bracelets but I don't think DD#2 would leave them on. There is an indoor play area we go to that puts bracelets on everyone paying to get in and DD always rips hers off within a few minutes of arriving.
