The smell just won't die. For over a week we have noticed a smell from the sink/disposal in the kitchen. We have run hot soapy water and dumped bleach down the sink each day and still the smell returns!

What can I do to get the smell to go away??

Lemon slices...orange slices...

Or go to Bed Bath and Beyond or Linens and Things and buy "PLINK"..it cleans and freshens the disposal. :thumbsup2

baking soda, 1/2 box per side, then follow with 1/2 cup of white vinegar,, be prepared for foaming action,,lol,, and have a large pot ready to cover the drain openings, should remove the smell and clean the pipes as well. then add a litttle baking soda to the disposal monthly, or weekly if you use it often.

Ohh, a science experiment (or just good, old-fashioned know-how). This one sounds like fun.

if it's really stinky you can use more of both ingredient.....I do.......and it smells better immediately! Good luck. Let the kids watch for fun!

Well I have baking soda but am out of vinegar. I'll send DH out to the store in the AM for some along with some lemons or oranges to grind up.

OMG I have this same problem it just started about 2 weeks ago ( we were gone last week to WDW so it was not a problem for me LOL )

We have tried everythign mentioned here and bought some Kitchen Disposal Care. We used all 4 packettes of it . It is bad really bad I told my DH we are ripping out the disposal and replacing it .

Any other ideas ? I tried bleach also .....

Wow...I wonder what is wrong...I have noticed other DISer's posting on here in the past saying their disposals smelled bad...some thought it might have been flies in there??? :confused3

I will say everytime I leave the house for an extended vacation (week or longer) I always use PLINK or some other disposal cleaner to make sure all food is completely out of the disposal and that it is CLEAN and FRESH!!!

If you can remove the rubber gasket in the drain, take that out and run it through the dishwasher. That seems to be the culprit most of the time in our house when the disposal smells.
