That's simple - because it's fun! I'm from deep South Louisiana and from 1995 - 2005, we had a great minor league (ECHL) team - The Louisiana IceGators! For quite a few seasons, the arena was always sold out - 11,700 rabid fans. It was great!

Rumor is New Orleans might get an expansion team. I think the NHL and MLS should do more collaborations and help grow each other's league's fanbases.

It has everything. It’s one of the fastest sports you can watch. There’s skill and talent but also big hits and guys throwing their body around.
Someone can basically score within 10 seconds of any position on the ice with some quick puck movement. The players are passionate and generally team first kinds of dudes.
It’s like you took the skill and speed of soccer and matched it with the force and strength of football and then put it on ice.

Action! I think it’s the most action packed sport. It’s constant back and forth. You have a mix of skill, finesse, and physicality. One of the biggest complaints I hear about hockey is following the puck. But once you get used to it you can follow it quite easily.

People say how fun American football is, and I just don’t get it. There is a play that generally lasts a couple seconds, followed by 30ish seconds of nothing. Rinse and repeat. And it seems like there are alot of commercials. There are only three a period in the NHL. There is very little downtime.

Comparing it to soccer (as we Americans call it), I feel like it’s so much more exciting. Yeah there is constant action in soccer but very little shots/opportunities from the little I’ve watched. Just a lot of back and forth in the midfield area.

NOLA also had a minor league hockey team during that time period and we always beat them! They couldn't keep them, so I doubt they would be able to sustain NHL. My closest MLS team is the Dynamo in Houston, but I haven't been in five years. It's just gotten so expensive to drive four hours each way, get a hotel, tickets, etc., that it's not worth it.

I’ve only been to minor league hockey.

Lots of fun.

So much cheaper than NHL with all the gore.

The best game was the one where they had to delay the game to scrape up all the frozen blood.

I went to a minor league game - Worcester Sharks, or I should say, Wustah Shahks! 🤣 It was great becuase those guys are out there playing with nothing to lose. They shoot a lot! They score a lot! They fight a lot! It's not as high-level as the NHL, but it's good, scrappy play.
